Just Another Outcast

Chara was standing outside the school, waiting for Frisk. The toe of her battered shoe was creating a decent sized hole in the dirt beneath her. Despite waiting for the other, Chara wasn’t looking for Frisk. Instead she was staring blankly ahead of her, focusing on tuning out the whispered remarks and dirty looks she got from the passing students.
For the past week or so, Chara had been doing her best to hide something from her friend. She was being bullied. It had started when she tripped over a well-known boy’s backpack while scuttling to class. The laughter echoing through the halls hadn’t bothered her, and she had left quickly. Unfortunately, it didn’t just go away like she had.
Being reclusive and reserved as she was, it had been a surprise when the other kids had come to school the next day knowing almost everything there was to know about her. Not only was she now an outcast, but a freak. Worthless, even.
At first, she had been able to handle the taunting remarks and giggling insults. But perhaps it was because that hadn’t gotten to her, her peers had gone further. Chara was subjected to being tripped and shoved into lockers. It bothered her, but thinking of other things had helped calm her down enough to walk away.
Today had been much harder. Today the girl had shouted at someone for pushing her. That little trick had won her the start of a black eye. To keep from losing control of herself, Chara had bit down on her lip and walked away, rearranging her fringe to cover the swollen eye.
It was all she could do to keep from having a breakdown as she waited for Frisk.
