Trapped - A Very Non-Canon Fanfiction for @ask-reformednightmare
This is probably going to be one the most Not Canon things you ever receive but it's hopefully a fun read!!
He'd lost control. His body now belonged to a Dark Matter, to Dot. That awful cackle still rang loud in his ears, now beginning to form a pounding headache as he fell. Darkness engulfed him, pulsing like it had a heartbeat. Or... maybe it did? He kept struggling against the black bindings around his torso but they wouldn't give.
Through the gap Dot had opened to get inside him he could see part of the dripping wound. Dark veins extended out from it, most likely into his core. As he fell further and further whatever was leaking from the wound almost seemed to rise upwards as it leaked from the wound into the air around him.
Looking down he finally understand the odd feeling of a missing weight around his neck. His amulet. It's gone. He looks side to side, above and below him, now that he's looking around he notices the world is missing the darkened tint his glasses would give it if he had them. Wait. Below him, what was that? He looked back and finally noticed a small ball, quickly getting bigger as he hurtled towards it.
A deep blue, with a slight pink shimmer. He was going too fast to really see what it was clearly, but he felt a... connection to whatever it was. He couldn't describe it with words but that didn't matter. Nobody seemed to be around to hear them anyway.
When he hit the globe he fell straight through it. And... into a chair? No, this was more like a Throne. His head slammed into the back of it when he landed and he wished he could raise a hand to nurse the wound. Or to check for blood. But he was inside the orb now. He felt much better about being here than outside in that inky blackness.
Looking up at the ball from the inside he could finally see the details. The blue was speckled with stars of all sizes, a deep pink crawled up from the bottom and slowly melted into the blue. That was something he very easily recognised. His orb form. Although... the pink was different. More than likely Dot was to blame for that.
But if this orb looked like his own form then... this must be his core! It would explain why he felt so much more at ease inside. And it'd explain the darkness it was surrounded by, that would be Dot! Oh of course! He would've been proud if that didn't imply he was stuck in his own core while his body was used as a puppet.
He wasn't entirely sure he wanted to know what the Dark Matter was doing with his body. He didn't want to think about his friends getting hurt and he didn't want to see them scared of him again. He'd been working so hard to stop that and now he'd been possessed. He sunk down in his seat, now that he mentioned it they'd have every right to be scared again, if he was so weak as to fall so quickly who knows what trouble he'd get them into...
A crackle. A spark. Nightmare blinked a few times. Something was appearing in front of him. He tried to shuffle backwards in the throne. A spark. A flash. A screen? That was a screen. It seemed to be the same colour as the blue above him and slowly but surely a picture was forming on it. He squinted a little, trying to identify what it was showing him. It didn't take too long, especially not after hearing that awful voice...
"Oh this is AMAZING! I can feel his power!! His core isn't like anything else! Ehehehe!!" The voice sent shivers down his spine. He could hear both his voice and Dots speaking together. The grating high pitched voice of the Dark Matter's a stark contrast to his deep and slightly gravelly one. It made an unsettling harmony that just made him feel wrong.
"Dot... please..." He didn't know if the Dark Matter could hear his pleas through the screen but... he had to try. He couldn't let them get away with this. But... what could he do from in here? Tied up and sat in a Throne inside his core. He was in a pretty pitiful state, even he could see that. But he knew he had to do something. Find the right time to struggle. He could break out, he knew it. He didn't have a choice. He had to.
Dot yelped upon hearing that voice in their head. They knew this wasn't their body but it also wasn't his anymore! What was he doing!? "OI! Get outta my head!" The shrill yet gruff reply came. The combination of voices would take him some getting used to... "What? You can hear me?" He... really hadn't expected that to work. "Then... you need to stop this, Dot! You can't do this!!" He began to plead, now knowing that he wouldn't go unheard.
"Wh-What!?" They were shocked by his demands. First he invades THEIR head and now he's demanding he gets his body back? "You've gotta be crazy if you think I'm giving this up! Eyehehe!! Your core has so much potential... wonder how I can use it?" Nightmare knew they were just trying to get a rise out of him... he also knew they were certainly working as he shot upright in the Throne.
"You won't use it for anything! You can't do that!" Panic began to rise within him, he couldn't let Dot hurt anyone, he cared about these people and this planet now and he wouldn't let them be hurt by anyone. Certainly not by some tiny ball of liquorice. "They won't let you! I won't let you!"
"You won't let me? Ehe- EHE- EEEHEHEHE!!" The grating laughter came again through the screen and Nightmare wished he could raise his hands to block it out. However, the bindings were too tight for that. "You're going to HELP me destroy them. Your core will at the least. I'd say that'd be you helping me!" They couldn't seem to stop laughing. Their morbid sense of humour caught up in the idea of torturing Nightmare by using his powers on his friends.
Nightmare wasn't laughing. He was absolutely livid. Dot seemed to find the idea of hurting HIS friends funny. He was going to show them FUNNY. "Shut up! You're not going to use me to hurt ANYONE! I've changed! I've become someone I didn't think I could and I've improved! But look at you. YOU have to possess me just to get a tiny sliver of power. You're WEAK Dot! You're WEAK and I'm not gonna-" Tight. So Tight. Crushing. His chest. The bindings. So Tight.
The coils around his torso had snapped tighter around him and Nightmare hunched in the Throne, trying in vain to wriggle free or create more room for him to so much as BREATHE correctly but he didn't seem to be getting anywhere with that. "I am NOT WEAK!! YOU'RE WEAK!! If you were so strong why could I possess you!? Huh??"
He was ready to bite back with a bitter response before he really thought about what they'd said and slumped in the Throne. If he WAS strong... this wouldn't be happening. His core had power but... maybe he was wrong. "N-No! Stop! I'm strong! I know I am! You're nothing!!" He didn't know that for sure anymore. He'd been beaten by Kirby. He'd been possessed by a Dark Matter. How strong really was he...?
"N-No... no you're wrong! You're wrong!" He pleaded, mostly to himself if he was honest. He... he had to be strong! If he wasn't strong then... then he couldn't break out. And he couldn't stop Dot. And he couldn't save his friends. And he couldn't stop people around him getting hurt aGAIN-
A slight chill appearing on his tail was the first time he noticed he'd started crying. After he noticed he just couldn't stop. He was weak. Dot was right. He slumped backwards into the Throne. If he was strong then... then this wouldn't have ever happened at all. He couldnt do anything.
The bindings slowly began to get tighter and tighter. Slowly forcing Nightmare to choke. He couldn't even BREATHE and he needed to break a possession. What a joke... the tears came thick and fast now, hitching his few breaths in his throat and almost stopping the air entirely. For the first time in his long, long life.
He felt truly powerless.
And that scared him.
It scared him so, so, much.
