As good as Jace Herondale. To Emma, it had been one of the biggest compliments anyone could ever give her. After all, Jace was someone she had always admired and looked up to. He was somewhat of a hero to her. But even heroes needed saving from time to time.
With her broadsword in hand, Emma hurried deeper into the darkness, the only light shining from the witchlight in her hand as she tried to find her way in this maze of tunnels. The blonde wasn’t afraid, adrenaline filling her from head to toe and preparing her for the fight she knew was about to come. They wouldn’t leave a Shadowhunter unguarded, after all.
Only, when she reached the right cavern, it seemed as if they did. Weird. Despite the hairs in the back of her neck standing on edge, and her gut telling Emma to stay alert, the girl still rushed forward to free Jace from the binds around his hands and feet. It also seemed like he was unconscious, so she’d have to carry him.
No sooner had she managed to free his hands or she heard a noise behind her, and instinct took over as she spun on her heel, grip on her sword tightening only for a moment. After all, if she held it too tightly, she couldn’t wield it easily. Emma hadn’t even seen the attacker yet, but the pungent stench of trash and urine filled her nostrils. Demon. She lashed out fast, only to return within her awaiting stance in a matter of seconds, ready for any move from the other.
Emma would keep Jace safe. Even if it was the last thing she’d do. That’s what she kept repeating to herself as she parried the demon’s every move, slashing left and right at it’s stinking skin, and all the while ignoring the burn on her skin whenever some of its ichor splashed upon her. In a way, it was satisfying, because with every burn she felt, she was getting closer to victory.
As the creature finally whimpered, crumbled in on itself and she knew for a fact she had won, Emma turned to face Jace, a huge smile upon her face.
