At first the administrator doesn’t notice the newcomer; Papers had to be signed and filled out. Not to mention it was that time of day where it was too late for coffee and too soon for wine. safe to say she was slightly out of sorts and tired.
Bu after a few moments the woman looked up over the rim of her reading glasses and offered up a curious smile. “I’m sorry Dearie, I did not see you there.”
"It is fine," Reynard answered meekly. He wasn't going to move until he was permitted to, and remained still until that time, as if it would minimize some self-imagined risk about talking to someone in purple. Frankly, he didn't like to, but he knew this woman was far below Her levels of intimidation. At least, so far she had been.
Then again, he wasn't unconvinced She wasn't also the devil in a flesh suit either.
"I was wondering...if you might have a spare few moments for questions."
She was suppose to be meeting Mama; suppose to be reporting back from her supposed vacation the administrator believed she had taken- but Laura felt something else was much more important. Standing in front of the little decorative mirror in her office, the secretary smiled softly.
The necklace Luc had given her lay against her chest. It was adjusted, the chain before (hanging too low to the point that the locket got caught between cleavage) now lay just above her breasts; the rest of the length hung down her upper back. Not too long, but still with plenty left over after she made the necklace hang exactly how she wanted it.
What captivated Laura’s gaze the most was the locket itself. The book was open, and within lay two small portraits; Left, showing her mother, and right showing her father. She had the original photo in her desk drawer, so she would never forget how they looked. Now that Laura had something to carry them in and in a way that was close to her heart, the assistant made a copy and stuck the small images within.
A content smile at seeing their warm loving faces smiling back grew on Laura’s lips, and feeling ready to leave, she closed the little book; the small clasp clicked shut.
‘Oh Luc, even without you being here you’re making me smile.’
It was so pretty, I was such a thoughtful gift… A small piece inside of her ached- It was feint, a little growing ache and longing that nestled in her chest and throbbed with her heart.
She misses her parents…
It was true.
But that wasn’t exactly it.
The smile disappeared, and Laura forced herself to look away from her own grim expression.
'No.'
Thinking that it was time, the assistant quickly combed her fingers through her hair and fixed her sash.
'No.'
Remembering suddenly something very importaint, Laura walked around her desk and opened a drawer to pull out her trusty clipboard, completed with a pencil tucked behind her ear and a pen hidden behind the clip.
'No.'
She wasn't thinking about anything other than making sure to meet Mama in time, and to get ready to work. Deeper than that, Laura was feeling foolish and weak. It was not her fault, or maybe it was. She needed to stop thinking too much; to stop looking so much into things that couldn't be there. There was nothing else, she thought. No feelings- just her mind for work and her hate for a certain man. Nothing more; Laura had to convince herself of that. And after mental re-assurance, she did.
It had been a long vacation, after all. She was just tired and not thinking clearly.
He didn't want to admit it, but he was quite lost.
Friedrich hated to admit his own weaknesses, especially in the company of strangers. But most of all, he hated admitting his weaknesses to himself, insisting even in the midst of his directionless wandering that he was fine.
Well, he could tell it to himself as much as he wanted, but it didn't change the fact that he wandered too far and too long in search of the Administrator he was told to report to. There were many different offices scattered about the Industries, and despite his attempts to remember the directions he was given, he couldn't for the life of him force his sleep-deprived mind to conjure up the instructions again...
