Those who are different
Earth was a strange planet. So behind the times and yet so hostile for those who could bring them new technologies. Lana was shocked that they had fired at her before Artemis even touched the ground, like if her small ship could do them any harm. She managed to escape but not very far. Normally she'd turn around and leave the planet, but now with a broken power link she had no hyperdrive, and that would stretch her journey into months, years even. She cloaked her ship and run away from the men in funny four-wheels vehicles with the letters CIA on them. But even when she landed in the place where she thought she'd be safe, her inhumanly blue eyes gave her out. She was amazed and a bit scared by how people of this planet looked and reacted at those who were just slightly different. They were one race, and they were divided over such silly things as a skin colour or sexual preferences. For someone who saw hundreds of races of dozens shapes and colours living side by side, it was incomprehensible.
She stole some money, but it was not enough to buy her peace. She couldn't find a place to stay, and she didn't want to go back to her ship too often, to keep the attention out from her. On the third day she heard that there was a school for people who men in the bar called 'mutants'. It was just before she was kicked out by some guys who called her a mutant as well. The fact that she could fight as well as run saved her skin. She spent all the next day looking for this place, hoping that those who are alienated themselves could have some compassion for someone who was truly an alien.
She landed in the backyard of a huge, beautiful mansion late in the night, and knocked on the door, keeping her gun close just in case.
