black panthers are melanistic versions of either a jaguar or a leopard. they appear solid black to the naked eye, but they aren’t- you can actually still see their spots when the sunlight hits them just right!
and while melanism is a genetic mutation that can be inherited, the children of a black panther won’t necessarily have it!
