Cure Happy could feel herself trembling as she looked around her, holding a barely conscious Cure Peace. Sunny, March and Beauty had still been up and fighting barely seconds ago, and now they were nowhere to be seen.
When the enemy had appeared, the girls had been taken by surprise. They didn’t expect one of Pierrot’s Titans of Despair to appear after they had won the war against the Bad End Kingdom. Candy wasn’t even here. They had been caught completely unprepared.
But what Happy felt they were mostly guilty of was underestimating the enemy just because they had already defeated it once. The five heroines had attacked using their signature move, hoping to get rid of the creature quickly and go on with their lives.
And upon being hit by the conjoined attacks, the creature’s body swelled up, and the next thing the girls of Smile Precure knew, a surge of energy had burst out of ithe monster, followed by a tidal wave of a familiar black liquid overwhelming them.
They had played right into the enemy’s trap.
And after the attack had passed, Happy had awakened with the terrible realization that Nanairogaoka had once more been turned into a barren wasteland covered in a thick layer of the mud-like substance formed by the ink. The same one from the “sea of despair” Pierrot had sent them in back then.
Happy managed to walk until she found Peace, her body slowly thinking into the black material. Sunny, March and Beauty were nowhere to be seen. The creature was still roaming in the distance, apparently oblivious to their presence.
Happy cradled Peace closer to her chest. She wasn’t sure if her heart had started beating faster or if it had stopped beating at all when she heard her friend asking her to abandon her here.
“H-Hey now, Peace... W-We need to gather everyone so we can fight back! We have to remain together. We have to!!“
She tried to lift Yayoi back on her feet. Her friends’ arms felt numb, like those of a ragdoll. Her body felt incredibly heavy, and the pink heroine somehow found herself unable to stop her friend’s sinking into the black paint despite her best efforts.
And she perfectly knew why. The power of a Precure comes from her emotions, and right now, Miyuki was terrified and she knew it. Her terror overshadowed her willpower, and as such her superhuman abilities had simply disappeared. Transformed or not, a Precure in despair wasn’t worth much as a warrior.
“I-If we give up, it’s over! So please, let me help you... Yayoi!“
Tears welled up in her eyes. Stupid Miyuki, now of all times wasn’t the moment to give in to panic! She said those last words while biting her upper lips, thinking about how much she wanted to convince herself as much as Yayoi of the veracity of those words.
