It’d seemed like the most logical place to start.. Both Gavin and Ace had agreed to that as they approached the Detroit City Orphanage.
“I believe the Deviant Child is most likely inside. We should Speak to the head officials and show them It’s picture.”
Gavin rolled his eyes at the Machines words. “Christ Nines! ‘Her Picture’! Not ‘It’. And She has a name! Use it!” He scolds, stepping out of the car, probably slamming the door with a bit more force than necessary.
“Right... Sorry Detective...” The RK900 mutters out with a nod as he follows his human partner towards the door. Ace himself was still learning, and had yet to become a Deviant himself, however he understood that Androids had ‘Human Rights and laws’ Now, and did his best to adhere to them.
As for Gavin Reed, The Detective had turned a new leaf shortly after the revolution, and after Connor had returned to the DPD. It hadn’t been easy for him to accept Androids as people at first, but over the months, he couldn’t deny it any longer. Each case with Androids he’d been forced to work proved that it was true more and more.
And when Ace had been assigned as his partner, well he had been furious, as one would expect, but he soon grew attached to the strange android, even if the RK900 seemed to refuse becoming a Deviant himself.
But Gavin wasn’t blind. He could see small moments when Software Instabilities and Emotions would slip through the cracks, especially when they’d spend time alone talking over cases, getting to know each other better, or simply playing with Gavin’s two cats.
It was only a matter of time before his partner would likely accept the changes.
Gavin was patent enough, and was willing to take whatever Ace was willing to give in the small moment’s that the android let him in on his thoughts.
Stepping inside the building, He could hear children laughing and playing in the other room and already was grinning from ear to ear.
“Hear that Nines? That’s a magical sound.” He hums softly, standing in the doorway to watch the kids.
Before Ace could get to the door to check for the android girl, they were pulled out of their thoughts by the receptionist stepping over to them.
“Are you two looking to adopt?” She asked with a bright smile, eyeing them both.
Gavin’s cheeks became red as he realized what she was thinking.
“Ah nono... We’re Not ah.. We’re not together... I mean we are Together, Cuz He’s My Partner.. But We’re just... Not like that...Yeah...”
Ace chuckles, shaking his head in slight amusement at Gavin’s sputtering, and answers her himself instead.
“We’re Detectives for the DPD working a missing persons case. We have reason to believe the person we’re searching for could be among the children of your agency.”
While Ace chatted with the woman, Gavin returned to the door of the playroom, looking over all the children chasing each other again with a fond smile.
‘Someday maybe...’ He thinks to himself. But he knows it’s not likely to be any time soon... For now, the only children he has are his two kitties back home...
‘And maybe Ace.’ He chuckles to himself.
