Katja looked over her kitchen counters one last time, making a mental checklist of all the things she would need, and ensuring that it was already out and ready. She liked being able to give Helena a few hours away from Tomas and the hovel they lived in, and she was glad to have the chance to possibly endear herself to Helena and work her way down on the hit list, but she did not need that girl going through her cupboards.
So.. bowls, pots, spoons, spatulas, mixer. Measuring cups and spoons, baking pans, cooling racks. Then butter, shortening, sugar, flour. Baking powder, salt, milk, vanilla extract. Then a wide variety of Jello mixes, because Katja really wasn't quite certain which kind Helena liked best. She had been told 'red', but she wasn't entirely sure if any of these people had actually been to a store and seen quite how MANY Jello flavors were 'red'. So.. Katja had gotten them all. Black Cherry, Blackberry Fusion, Cherry, and Raspberry. Strawberry, Strawberry Banana, Tropical Fusion, and Watermelon. The last one was really more pink than red, but Katja wasn't going to risk NOT getting it.
Having gone over all the items laid out neatly across her kitchen, she thought, "Yes. Zhat should be all vee are needing for today. Now I just haf to vait-"
She could hear a soft but persistent knocking on the front door of her apartment. Katja took a long, deep breath. Well, she was here, then.
