Better With Age: Askhwab Kroemspyrsyn
Age 20 - Fortunate to find a niche with a shipping company between Thanalan and La Noscea, he pulls double duty loading cargo ships by day, and securely guarding the warehouses by night. He’s never been one to sit idle, and grabs food and rest only when he absolutely must - besides, there’s no time to dwell on what he’s lost when his mind and body are busy. His physical scars have healed but he’s still plagued by nightmares, as vivid as reality, that keep him awake for days at a time. He’s, fortunately, never been caught absolutely crashed behind a stack of crates when the exhaustion catches up...yet. He never fails to keep an ear to the ground for any information that sounds like it might be in regards to his family, particularly his beloved sister. For seven years, he tucks away hard earned coin to purchase his own merchant ship, the Kingscup, and becomes a captain at 22.
Age 40 - He’s been a merchant captain for almost 20 years; putting his father’s teachings into practice and giving his trade routes a profitable flourish. He has trade permits in nearly every port, east to west, north to south, and enjoys the benefits of a worldly experience. Twenty-five years of silence has left him with the realistic expectation that he’ll never be reunited with the family he lost and with that comes a semblance of peace; still, he’ll never let go of the final thread of hope that maybe, just maybe... All the while, he’s been building a family both with his crew and (hopefully) someone special. He can never see himself truly leaving the sea; but what’re a few young ones of his own scampering across the deck? Success hasn’t been easily won, but he’s proud to have turned his ship into an overflowing vessel of profit and charity for himself, and his crewmates. Age 60 - Has time truly sailed by him so quickly, without notice? By this point in his successful career, he’s still a captain of his own ship, but proud beyond measure to oversee a fleet of nearly 10 other ships sailing his secured trade routes year-round. The Kingscup stays close to home, sailing a tight path around Eorzea, becoming a mainstay in its port cities. While she still does trade, the ship has become more of a home than a way of business, having taken on countless renovations, leaving half the ship made up of living quarters for himself and (hopefully) his visiting grandchildren. It would be his hope that any of his children would be eager to captain one of their own ships under his banner, but begrudges none who wish to seek their own path. It’s been a good, and blessed life he can only hope his family would be proud of...
