if you had a child, would you raise them without gender?

i don’t know that a totally genderless upbringing is in anyway feasible, but i’d definitely be careful not to unnecessarily gender clothing or toys. i’d make sure to have conversations about gender with my kid so that they didn’t feel like there was any rigidity in place. 

i wouldn’t raise them without gender, but i’d want to have open dialogues in formative years and be receptive to what my kid was telling me regarding their own gender. 

i’m not a parent, and i’m only 23, but that’s how i see it at the moment

hi. idk if it’s appropriate to reach out to you like this, but you are the first person i thought of, so here we go. i’m going through some really tough shit and i haven’t been doing so hot. it’s worsened by the fact that none of my friends can understand the scope of it, so i’m just terrified and pissed off all of the time. surprisingly, i found that fiction helps: i haven’t thought about harry potter in maybe 5 years, but suddenly it’s so so important again; (1/2)

harry potter is an extraordinary piece of resilience fiction and definitely the first place i go when i need some toughen-up-and-bear-it reminders. 

i don’t know what specifically counts as resilience fiction, but some that potentially stick out: a heartbreaking work of staggering genius, great expectations, the hobbit/lotr, chaos walking trilogy

Does Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find have any HP spoilers in it? I've just finished Prisoner of Azkiban for the first time and I don't think I will finish the series before that film comes out so I am trying to plan. I know it must sound very dumb lol.

i haven’t seen it or read script, but i’d assume it isn’t reliant on the HP plot? probably just alludes to it?

nah it’s all silly

but to be real, celebrities lie to you ALL THE TIME. they don’t know you. they don’t owe you anything. and they might like their fans, but at the end of the day, taylor swift’s perfect image pays for the livelihood of hundreds, if not thousands of people. there are people who feed their children based on the salary paid to them by taylor swift’s decade of lies. 

and that’s OKAY.

you know what’s like not chill with me? the countless celebrity men who abuse their wives and women in their lives and walk away with a career and not HALF the conversation that we’ve had about taylor swift. 

i mean i get it, even if she didn’t lie lie, she totally implicated herself and more than that, it makes her look two faced as hell. but like y’all line up to watch this girl fail and then laugh with glee when she does and i get it. her PR strategy has been messy as hell, but taylor swift didn’t hurt anybody. she’s been ignorant, she’s been silent, but she’s also apologized for a fair bit of that and i think everyone is on a journey to education.

idk. i’ve lied to save face in my friend groups. i was never torn apart internationally for it, but i also don’t have a net worth of $250 million. it’s give and take. 

all i know is her and kanye are both sitting on piles of money and there remain a million things more important to talk about.

maybe we wouldn’t feel the need to market girls so perfectly if we didn’t rip them apart when their imperfections showed.
