I’ve always wanted to make a prequel even though I had only planned one for Aya. Then when summer came and I had free time, I thought I could write or do something new and this idea of telling a story from Debra’s past kind of just appeared, I guess. Also my obsession with Paper Towns and Cara Delevingne had some responsibility in it.

Music helps a bunch. I remember having writer’s block in the most important scene of ‘Love, Sarah’ and then I heard Layla’s cover of ‘The Hanging Tree’ and it completely saved me and made the scene a hundred times better. So yeah, listening to music, making playlist, imagining a song being your character or OTP’s song helps a lot. A lot other things also inspire me like previous footage and sometimes pictures or film scenes.

I think Paper Towns and Cara as Margo had a lot of influence on having this idea. Also I wanted to show more about Debra’s sexuality since I ship (too much) Debra and Melissa/Fern from 2x02 of MOM.

I’ve always wanted to do one. I think every character in the show has the potential to have a prequel. And Debra, being one of my favorite characters I’ve ever created, deserved one. I also got inspired somehow so I decided ‘why not make a prequel? Let’s do it’.
They’re all my babies so it’s hard to choose just one. I guess Zac from MOM, because I can relate to him so much and I just love the way he saves everyone just by being himself even though he’s broken too. From the prequel, I think Sarah because she’s so outgoing and there’s some mystery in that girl that’s just irresistible.
I always end up in the living room to do work somehow. I think it’s because there’s a TV there so I don’t feel so lonely all the time.
