Someone was in the woods near Xan’s home.

Now, that normally wasn’t such a big deal - Tara would probably just get them to go away somehow before they reached the ruins, and failing that it was usually enough to bar off the door and hide in a corner.

But Tara wasn’t here today (she’d gone to get supplies), and Xan was entirely alone and defenseless.
