Erika and Ivan both have an affinity for a certain kind of snowmen. The kind that move on their own (kinda like Olaf in Frozen, except not as...flamboyant/deep personality). It all started a few centuries back...

Being neighbors (a bit of Norway borders north western Russia) Norway would send out expeditions, or go into the Russian area herself for diplomatic reasons, or simple trading. One of those trips, Erika found a number of snowmen outside of Ivan's house, with Ivan diligently making more. With a wink a little magic, the snowmen began moving on their own, and started dancing around Ivan. The two spent the rest of their day laughing, making snowmen, and bringing them to life.

On occasion Ivan will leave a snowman outside of Erika's house when he's visiting for meetings. She'll bring it to life and send it back to Ivan, usually with a message.
