So, I believe that Taylor got run over by a car due to being somehow even shorter than Ace (the leading theory on what happened to him), just before the race that would decide the Ultimate Jockey.

And because Ace, even at his most traumatized and deprived of his only positive motivation, would run circles around the other jockeys, he got the title with no effort whatsoever.

(Also, possible sibling inferiority complex, considering he's a literal one-trick-pony with nine other siblings.)

Also, in another universe, Taylor Riley would be the protagonist of a horse-jockeying shonen anime, while Ace Markey is his naturally-gifted childhood friend-turned-rival who has boatloads of gay subtext with him. (I wonder if there's an Umamusume ship dynamic that matches these two.)

Imagine if either Ace or Taylor managed to successfully quit and he became the "Ultimate Competitor" or "Ultimate Jack-of-all-Trades" thanks to their stupid competitions.
