Hi 👋 wanted to ask, how was your experience breaking into the industry? Was like, your resume as important as a reel. I'm more in the side of traditional 2D animation but rigging feels like a must know skill now industry wise.
Howdy! Getting into the industry honestly felt like a lot of luck to me. I won't ramble to long about it but to short version is, I did a test for a studio and was ghosted. The same job came up again and my husband (also an animator) applied. He got the job! Then during his interview he mentioned I was also an animator and did a test. They checked my test, saying they lost it, and I got the job to! I don't know if they really did lose my test. They might of just been like "oh well, seeing as she's here." But I got the gig! Since then I've been lily padding from gig to gig best I can!
I find that the showreel is what people focus on the most, but a well presented resume doesn't hurt! It doesn't have to be an ultra fancy one either. Keep it clean and simple. Some people, including myself when I first started, over bake the design of their CV/Resume. I remember I tried to make it very overly designed and fun so it'd stand out. Which WAS fun, but if the information isn't viewable at a glance maybe bring it back a bit.
Also if you find you have a knack for rigging and enjoy it go for it! Rigging is a cool skill, but no pressure if it doesn't click. It doesn't hurt to learn new things if you find you have the energy for it.
