OKI!! So Ao3 uses something called HTML formatting. When you paste text into the box, it automatically inputs some formatting for you. This is paragraph breaks, capitalizations, etc. Other formatting, such as italics and bold text, must be done on their own. Ao3 has their own guide on how to do this, but it can be confusing. I will use simple explanation to show how it's done. HTML works on many sites, INCLUDING Tumblr. ITALICS:

I want this text italicised: "I love you"

In order to do this, I type <em> "I love you" </em>

In this case, the "EM" stands for emphasis. the brackets around the EM indicate that it is code and not a real word. /EM is used at the end to indicate the closing of the italics. BOLD TEXT:

I want this text emboldened: "I love you"

In order to do this, I type <strong> "I love you" </strong>

In this case, the "strong" means strong text. the brackets around the strong indicate that it is code and not a real word. /strong is used at the end to indicate the closing of the bold text. Some other important things may be text size. There are 6 different text sizes on works in Ao3. These are known as "Heading sizes". I have not used them in my actual works, so I do not know if you can use these in the work box.

But regardless, headings are very simple to do! The largest text is "Heading 1" which can be seen in the titles of works. This is <h1> text </h1>. Each subsequent heading is smaller, but typed the same with larger numbers. I hope this helps! Feel free to ask questions :)
