Yo =) First off, I wanted to mention that I really like your cosplays! =D I was wondering if you have any advice on how to get started on training or dietting or what you do to get a good-looking body? I really wanna try to get fit, and maybe cosplay too when I get there, but I dunno where or how to start >o< Also, sorry if the ask is weird - I'm really nervous about writing these ^^'
Hopefully this is good advice. I’m no pro at this, but about two years ago or so, I was above 200 lbs. Got down to 135 near the end of Con Season last year, hovering around 150-155 now.
Best thing I can say to start is to find a exercise you enjoy, and do it. If it’s not something you enjoy doing, you’re not gonna keep doing it, and then you’ll feel bad about not doing it. Me? I *HATE* running. With a passion. And I get hurt if I try weight training. A lot. But I ended up finding DDP Yoga (http://www.ddpyoga.com blatant plug), and found it a fun way to stay motivated. But that’s just me.
The other *really* important thing (and if we’re talking strictly losing weight the MOST important) is eating better. Not necessarily eating LESS, but eating better. I’d suggest finding a good calorie counter app (I use MyFitness Pal), and make sure you be honest with it. Especially with portion sizes. Before I started this, I didn’t do portion control at ALL, and then when I did, I find out what I thought was a single portion could’ve been 2 or more. D: (Also, getting a good kitchen scale is pretty important for this, but I do baking on the side, so I’d have one anyway) So when you do start tracking calories, make sure you account for everything (even that spoon of sugar in coffee), make sure portion sizes are accounted for, and be honest with what you put.
BUT, sorry for being really “train of thought” with this, is to remember to stay healthy. Physically and mentally. Start slow (heck, with the calorie thing, don’t even worry about meeting a goal or anything for the first week or two, just keep track, and then start figuring out where you might be able to skip, say, something sweet, or not have that sauce) And never beat yourself up if you have a cheat day or three. One of the things DDP says in his videos: It doesn’t matter if you fall, no one cares if you fall. That’s part of learning, part of trying. It’s about making sure you get back up again.
Hope this made sense in some manner. And helped, too. To summarize:- Find exercise you enjoy and can keep doing- Eat properly. Proper foods, proper amounts- Slow and steady wins the race- Be happy, and be healthy
