Do you have any spanish book recommendations? Like story books? I’m trying to learn and I got two children’s story books that look interesting for me to read as I improve but I’m always hunting for more. Anything that works for, like, a novice spanish reader to intermediate or expert would be great. Thanks in advance!
i unfortunately have not read many full-length books in spanish but i have read a lot of short stories!! one full length book that is great is la casa en mango street by sandra cisneros. children’s books are also really great for learning new vocab and stuff so great start!! i also love the works of federico garcía lorca, juan rulfo (”no oyes ladrar los perros” is one story i love), gabriel garcía márquez, and jorge luis borges. i know there weren’t a lot of specific recommendations in that but i hope this answered your question :)
do you have any history book you like? maybe something like a novel?
thank you sm for asking!! there are a few books on this list i haven't personally read, but i have heard great things and/or enjoyed every book on this list! also i tend to focus on sociocultural history so that's the majority of the books i know. but i hope this helps :)
historical fiction - all quiet on the western front (erich maria remarque) - the book thief (markus zusak) - things fall apart (chinua achebe) - the color purple (alice walker)
nonfiction - the new jim crow (michelle alexander) - the souls of black folk (w.e.b. dubois) - impressions of an indian childhood (zitkala-šá)
anyone is welcome to add more recommendations in the replies!!
do you have any tip to deal with overwhelming? I'm in the middle of exam seasons and with quarantine, this is going crazy
this is something i’ve dealt with A LOT, especially in college—so i get you. through family and friends i’ve learned some tips and tricks to help prevent getting overwhelmed.
mentally, it is good to take some deep breaths and meditate. this helps to ground yourself and understand that everything that is overwhelming you will pass. one of the best things i’ve found to do to stop being overwhelmed from schoolwork is planning. i tend to kind of shut down when i have a lot of work to do but planning when and what work you’ll do and sticking to that plan helps the work to get done!!
i hope this helps and feel free to message me anytime!! :)
This is all totally normal! I’m a grad student rn and also had my first day or being a TA today, and I can confirm that I was just as nervous as I was when starting undergrad. There’s a lot to take in those first few days and it can be intimidating, but also know that you’re gonna be alright and unless you’ve got all rude professors, they’ll ask be there to help support you in the transition.
thank you so much :) i really appreciate the response
for the autumn ask: November and books
November: What are five things you’re thankful for? - my family, my friends, my chance to get an education, kind people, and the privilege i’ve been given/the chance to use it for good
Books: What was the last book you read? What did you think of it? (and/or) What is your favorite book?- the last book i read was the martian (i’m actually currently reading it for ap physics) and i love it!! the plot is super fun and although i don’t get all of the science stuff it’s super good. my favorite book is probably freakonomics. i read it last year for ap lang and it was super thought provoking
aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe!
added to TBR | on my TBR | couldn’t finish it | did not enjoy | it was OK | liked it | loved it | favorite | not interested
I looked up what it’s about and it looks so good!!
I wonder who gave him a lollipop 👀
