Happy Birthday Mother!
I'm away form my laptop and in Michigan at the moment so hopefully this shows up on the right day... Uhm... Happy birthday mother! And hope that you enjoyed 'cause this was hard to write!
Severa was nervous about today. Why? It was her mother’s birthday and everything that she thought of wasn’t good enough for her perfect mother.
She wanted to give her something that she would love to have. Something that she could treasure. But she couldn’t out what to get her!
“Ugh… I’m not good at this…!” she scratched her head then looked down. “Birthday huh…”
She remembered the few birthday’s her mother would attend with her family.
Severa smiled brightly with her father who was holding Morgan. “Happy biwthday Mothwer!”
“Why Severa… thank you.” she smiled as she picked up her daughter and kissed her head as she made her way to her husband and kissed him lightly on the lips. “You didn’t have to do this you know.”
“Nonsense! This is not only a birthday party for you, but something that would hopefully relax you since you were away for so long.” Genro grinned brightly as he let Morgan go to her mother.
Cordelia laughed lightly and held her two precious daughters within her arms. “I suppose you’re right. I’m sorry for being away for so long… I’m a failure as a wife and mother.”
“Mothwer you’re not! You’re protecting us wight?!” Severa pouted cutely.
“Of course.” she smiled and kissed her head. “I want you to grow up strong and happy with Morgan.
Morgan merely laughed childishly.
That was when Severa was 4. After that birthday, everything went downhill…
“Mother you’re rarely here now! Please stay here! Father will be back soon!” Severa whined as she held her mother’s hand.
“But Severa, you know I have a duty!”
“Sevvy ish wight momom.” Morgan held onto Severa and looked at their mother. “Pleash stay…?”
Cordelia sighed and patted their heads. “Alright… but why are you two so adamant for me to stay for today? You usually send me off with a smile.”
“Because it’s your birthday!” Severa grinned as Morgan hugged her.
“Oh that’s right…!” the mother smiled and hugged her daughters gently.
“You were so busy that you never realized it!” they laughed until the door opened and their father came in bloody.
“Oh Naga.. Honey!” Cordelia quickly let go of her daughters and rushed to her husband, kissing his cheek and looked at Severa. “Quickly grab some salves and elixirs!”
Severa hesitated but nodded and grabbed Morgan to help her and to save her mind.
“S-Sevvy…? F-fathwer… i-is gonna b-be fine w-wight…?”
“Y-Yeah…” she was panicking but she tried her best to stay calm, finding all the salves and elixirs they had and rushed back to her mother. “Daddy… stay with us…!”
Cordelia grabbed the salves and tried her best to stop the bleeding and kept talking with her husband. “P-Please keep talking to us dear…”
“C-Cordelia…” he groaned a bit and smiled weakly at her. “I’m sorry… I couldn’t… protect Chrom…”
Severa stared at her father while holding onto Morgan to keep her from crying. ‘Chrom again…? I’m hearing his name a lot…’
“Don’t worry you did your best…” her voice cracked as she brushed his hair out of his face.
“H-He’s ngh… severely injured… but he’ll… live… protect him…” he reached up and caressed his wife’s cheek. “I love you… Cordelia…”
Severa snapped. She ran out of the house, into the rain and ran as fast as she could to the capitol. Either way, she was too late. She was too slow. By the time she asked for Maribelle or Lissa and rushed back to her house, her father was long gone. Her efforts were wasted. She blamed herself for not rushing to get one of them sooner.
Morgan held onto her sister for comfort while Cordelia just cried and whispered ‘I love you’ to her husband.
“Daddy…” Severa cried as she held onto Morgan.
“After that Mother was bitter about having her birthday…” she muttered into the sky.
“I was what in the future?”
Severa jumped and glared behind her then calmed down when she saw her mother standing behind her. “D-Don’t come up behind me like that…!”
“I have been calling you for a while.” Cordelia placed a hand on her daughter’s shoulder. “Are you alright? You seemed distracted.”
The mercenary looked away then thought of an idea. “Mother can you meet my by the tree outside of camp in about… an hour?”
Cordelia blinked. She didn’t have anything to do besides check the inventory or and the others. “Alright but for what?”
“You’ll see!” Severa ran back to her tent.
Seeing Cynthia with her spearhead before made her jealous but what if… they could do the same thing while out on a picnic…? Smiling to herself, she grabbed a basket and made some sandwiches, grabbed some bread, ham, cheese, and fruits. Was that good enough…? Oh yes something to drink, a table cloth to sit on, cups to hold the drink, plates to hold the food, eating utensils…. that should be perfect now. She double checked everything and hoped that it would be good enough as she made her way to the tree.
“Severa?” Cordelia looked at her daughter. “What are we going to do with that basket?”
“You’ll see soon mother!” she grabbed her arm and walked to the top of the cliff, showing her mother a good view of the camp and the forest around them. “Yes I realize that we could get hurt up here if there was an enemy to attack us from the sky, but we can still sit here under this tree and still have a good view… right…?”
She was nervous that her mother wouldn’t approve.
Cordelia looked at the view then the sky then at Severa then at the basket in her hands. “You planned this out…?”
“Well no… I planned this out on a whim because I couldn’t figure out a good way to celebrate your birthday…” Severa admitted as she looked down. “I’m sorry this wasn’t good enough for you mother…”
“Are you kidding me?” she smiled and pulled her daughter into a tight embrace. “I love it!”
“R-Really…?” she smiled as she hugged her mother back.
“Yes. I mean my daughter may have planned this on a whim, but it was still thoughtful of you.” she smiled.
Severa let out a breath of relief as she let go of her mother and placed down a table cloth. “Well I had a couple things to tell you so might as well make it into a picnic…right?” she smiled nervously.
“Oh?” Cordelia sat down next to her daughter and watched her. “What did you want to talk about dear?”
“A…couple things…” she hesitated as she set down the plates and food. “It’s not easy to ask but… will you make a lance with me someday…?”
“A lance?”
“Yes. I mean… It was… kinda unfair that Cynthia had so many things to remember her mother by… even Gerome… but I usually see Cynthia gripping onto that spearhead of hers made me a little… jealous and well… annoyed…”
Cordelia nodded, somewhat understanding her situation. “In the future… I wasn’t a good mother to you was I?”
“No you were! It’s just…” the mercenary looked down. “We never really spent time together… After you and father died… I lived in the castle with the others… I wasn’t really close to them either so…”
The knight pulled her daughter into a tight hug. “I’m so sorry… I’m sorry that you had to live that way… I promise that I won’t leave your side this time.”
“Mother…” she held her back. “Can we stay like this…? Just for a little while longer..?”
“Of course sweetie…” Cordelia smiled as she held onto her daughter and felt glad that her daughter still cared for her even though she was not the same. “This is the best birthday that I have ever had…”
“I’m glad that you like it mother. Now onto the picnic then other topic.” she winked.
“Oh what would that be?”
“Besides having more mother-daughter time, I want to make a lance with you and possibly… train with you…?”
The woman blinked then nodded, smiling. “Sure thing Severa. I’ll be more than happy to.”
“Thanks mother!”
“No…” she shook her head. “Thank you for this wonderful gift Severa.”
