My dad had a brother and his name was John.
My dad told me about vampires and I told my brother about them.
Even though I never said it, I always thought of John as the sensitive one. He was such a hopeless romantic when he was a teenager. It broke my heart sometimes.
Katherine Pierce physically tortured John when he was a teenager. I asked for his memory to be erased about knowing her.
I didn’t take any summer breaks during college. I just wanted to finish school as soon as possible.
Isobel Flemming was incredibly smart as a teenager. I helped her get into Duke by giving her support with SAT prep.
Jenna brought Miranda and I together a lot because she was good friends with John.

The first time I staked a vampire, I was 17 during a run in the woods. I wasn’t ready, but I finished it off by hitting him in the head with a large rock and staking him with a stray piece of wood.
I was in love with Katherine Pierce— or at least I thought I was. Once I found out she was a vampire, I couldn’t accept our relationship. She told me I was her humanity, but I didn’t believe her.
