Oh my god, whoever you are, bless your soul for asking about Meera Reed. One of the most badass characters I’ve ever seen on screen or in lit.

How I feel about this character:

Meera Reed is fiercely loyal and protective of her close people...almost a fault. She’s very head strong, opinionated, and skilled af with any pointy weapon. She has a special bond with her brother Jojen, and feels like she has to protect the both of them. She has a strong moral compass and has specific views that aren’t always easily shaken. She’s used to being perceived as aggressive or bitchy, so she doesn’t try too hard with people when they rub her the wrong way. She’s drawn to quiet, intellectual minds and has a lot of views on spirituality that she’ll happily debate with someone who can discuss dissenting opinions without making personal. In short, Meera Reed doesn’t suffer fools and she’s better off for it.

Arya Stark. I feel like these two would be thick as thieves if given the opportunity.

My unpopular opinion about this character

Ooof, this is a tough one because I don’t think I have flushed Meera out enough to have created an unpopular opinion about her. If I absolutely had to come up with one, I would say that I don’t necessarily think she harbored romantic feelings for Bran in the show. I think she felt a familial duty to protect him and also well...given what we know of what he became, she felt like she had to do everything to make him the Three-eyed Raven for the good of Westeros, but since he was such a bitch about it, I feel like her romantic feelings for him dissipated quickly.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I hope Meera is somewhere in Westeros living her best life. She’s hopefully in a loving, commitment relationship with someone she loves and is raising loads of beautiful, dark haired children, one of whom is named after her brother <3

Robb!

Ahhh, my favorite King of the North. Yaass, thank you for the ask, kind anon.

How I feel about this character:

I absolutely adore Robb. I just do. I find him to be both easy on the eyes and easy on the spirit haha. He’s the first born Stark, which comes with a boatload of expectations and baggage, but he doesn’t let it get to him. He handles the pressure of being Ned Stark’s successor with aplomb. He’s an extrovert who loves people and loves him family fiercely. He’s definitely guided by his feelings but also understands the importance of duty and commitment. He is willing to listen to those who know more than him, and is always striving to be better. He’s a romantic who attracts people easily and therefore has a lot of strong friendships and has many people who will lay down their lives for him. He’s a natural born leader but can sometimes make foolish, rash decisions when he feels like he’s backed into a corner. However, he also owns his mistakes and very rarely lays blame at other people’s feet. That being said, Robb is someone who understands his privilege and if left unchecked, would absolutely take advantage of it. He’s not a bully though and would never prey on others but he certainly carries a bit of arrogance that comes from being raised in a wealthy circumstance. While some would find that offputting or be envious of it, at the end of the day, most people like Robb and enjoy spending time with him, because home boy lights up a room when he walks in, and you can fight me on that.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

If he and Gendry don’t hook up, I can at least see them being pretty good buds. I also think Robb and Jon Snow have a special bond and one that Robb values deeply. Same for Theon, but like...we all know Throbb is the greatest, most mighty GOT/ASoIaF ship that never sailed and that’s that on that.

My unpopular opinion about this character

Ooof, I guess one big one is that I don’t blame Robb for fucking over the Freys for love. For one, I don’t think he took them very seriously and I don’t blame him, despite it ultimately costing him and Cat their lives. I also think it’s something that rings incredibly true to his character, so yeah, can’t fault him for it.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

In an alternate GOT/ASoIaF reality, Robb gives up his King of the North title to Sansa (my one true kween, sorry not sorry) in favor of being a family man and helping Talisa raise their brood of children, including first born, baby Eddard <3

So both of them absolutely *love* each other’s eyes...which is why they are so good at silently communicating.

Arya also loves Gendry’s shoulders and his ass, and Gendry is a huge fan of Arya’s eyebrows (it’s a Pavlovian reaction when she raises it in challenge) and also her legs, which he loves draping over his shoulders when he’s going down on her 😏

24. Who whispers inappropriate things in the other’s ear during inappropriate times?

This one is absolutely a no brainer. Arya all the way and she gets a kick out of how flustered Gendry gets, which only eggs her on...she pays for it later when they’re in private 😂

30. one headcanon about this OTP that mends it

At their core, Gendrya are friends and genuinely like each other. They have each others’ back no matter what and look out for each other first and foremost. They’re also each other’s biggest fans and accept the parts of each other that others may not like. All of that together makes me feel like they are inevitable. ❤️❤️❤️

Hey @livhatesolives! Thank you for giving me this ask. I identify very strongly with Ms. Sansa Stark and therefore, truly appreciate the opportunity to write a love letter to my favorite GOT/ASoIaF character.

How I feel about this character:

Sansa Stark is one of the most complicated GOT/ASoIaF characters in my (non) humble opinion. She’s someone who grew up with certain romanticized ideals and expectations from life that got systematically torn down over time. However, she didn’t crumble beneath all the pain and trauma she endured (something she has in common with her younger sister, ahem). She’s incredibly beautiful in a very traditional sense and that actually causes her to be extremely insecure and also what makes her a bit of a bully when she is young. She had to grow up quickly and made her question the expectations she had as a kid. As a result, this makes her deeply remorseful for being cruel in her youth and has strived to rebuild relationships with people she’d wronged including Arya and Jon. She’s a strategic thinker and has incredible foresight. Her survival instinct is second to none and she can outthink and out strategize any politically savvy leader out there. Nevertheless, she can come off very cold and aloof, which makes her very unapproachable and cold. She gives off a certain air of arrogance and haughtiness that puts people off but once you get to know her, she is one of the most giving, generous and caring people you will ever encounter.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

I don’t actually ship Sansa with anyone. I don’t know if this is because I can’t imagine her letting anyone in post-canon OR because I think nobody is good enough for my baby, but I just don’t see a man or woman out there who matches her like Arya and Gendry match each other, and if I’m going to ship Sansa with anyone, they need to be at THAT level. That being said, I think Sansa and Margaery Tyrell are the closest to what I can imagine Sansa actually being happy with long term.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Gendry Waters. Anyone who has read The Last Time knows how fiercely I ship this friendship even if there was not an inkling of this in canon…canon whomst?

My unpopular opinion about this character

Sansa is not the villain in Arya’s story and I am so sick and tired of people pitting them against each other. These two are sisters and I completely understand that Sansa was awful to Arya as kids, but how many of us were bullied as children and were able to overcome that in adulthood. I don’t see how anyone can judge them for finding some sort of balance as adults. I feel like Sansa is often misjudged as being purely cold and judgemental without her motivations being fleshed out and I hate that. I think she loves Arya fiercely and is in a lot of ways envious of Arya’s ability to do what she wants and get away with it. This might cause conflict and a lot of cognitive dissonance in her head, but at the end of the day, Sansa would cut a bitch for anyone in her family, but especially Arya and I refuse to hear anything else.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I really wish Sansa never told Tyrion about Jon’s patronage. I feel like that was something that truly went against her character and I am not here for it. I also find that her dislike of Dany was horribly blown up and misjudged and I wish that the show never went in that direction if they didn’t plan on giving it more screen time...but that’s just part of my general gripe with the show. What I really wish for Sansa is a gentle love and a powerful kingdom and I also wish for her to be a mother...but that’s probably never going to happen so I’ll just write it, I guess ;)

25. Do you believe in love at first sight?

I don’t. I believe in lust at first sight and intrigue at first sight, but i think love, real, honest, fuck me up and put me back together love is a product of time and effort *and* commitment. I don’t think it’s something you can just have. It’s something you work on. I have a lot of thoughts on this but I’ll shut up now, before I go into a verbal diatribe of how media these days doesn’t spend enough time showing us what happens after “happily ever after,” which is why teenagers and young kids get the wrong impression about love...but I said I’ll stop.

26. Do you believe in soulmates?

I do, but I don’t think there’s just one person out there for everyone. I think soulmates come and go and they’re also not always romantic. My platonic soulmate is my best friend and we’ve lived 3,000 miles away from each other for 10 years now and yet she’s “my person.” She’s the one who gets who I am because we are in a lot of ways the same, but she also teaches me something new everyday.

I’ve also had the fortune of being in a romantic relationship with someone who I considered then and still consider a soulmate. We didn’t work out (see answer to #25 to guess why) but I think we were destined to meet and teach each other something about love...and I guess that’s my interpretation of a soulmate and why i think there is more than one for each of us. Or maybe I’m just too hopeful ahead of this lovely (Hallmark engineered) holiday. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Hahha…you guys are keeping me super distracted from editing the next chapter of The Last Time, but I am HERE for it.

19. Who tells their family/friends about their relationship first?

I love this ask because I 100% think Gendry would tell his closest people first (his half-sisters, Davos, Hot Pie) and Arya would do the same but only tell Bran (and maybe Jon if he’s around) because she doesn’t want her parents or Sansa to make a big deal out of it…and then ofc, what happens is, they go drinking one night and Hot pie snaps a photo of Arya planting a phat kiss on Gendry and because HP is the biggest Gendrya Stan there is, he posts it on his social media with the caption: Love birds 🐦💕. Sansa sees it and loses it and then at their next Stark family dinner, Gendrya undergo a family sized interrogation, which Gendry passes with flying colors, because it’s impossible for anyone to miss his moon eyes.

20. What do their family/friends think of their relationship?

I think the general reaction is ‘what took so long’ because let’s face it, it’s pretty obvious to everyone and their mother that these two belong together.

If I may focus on Catelyn, I also think that because Arya hasn’t committed to any other guy before, she would be a little bit surprised and concerned about how serious her free spirited daughter is about Gendry.

Over time though, I think Gendry would win her over by showing his devotion to Arya and being a strong support system for her. In my headcanon where the Starks are all alive, Gendry actually lets Catelyn (not Ned) know he’s going to propose before he does. He doesn’t ask permission, he just gives her a heads up, which ofc Arya ruins by proposing to him first…but that’s just a technicality.

23. Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines?

Gendry absolutely does. At first, he does it to irk Arya but over time, he realizes that despite her endless teasing, she actually secretly likes it. So he starts whispering them randomly into her ear on occasion and it gets progressively cheesier over time. To the point that one time, Arya is expecting it and looks over her shoulder at him to be like “well what do you have up your sleeve today” and Gendry surprises her by keeping it simple and asking her to marry him :P (p.s. I know this is in exact opposition to my headcanon that she proposes first, but a girl can have many fantasies :P)

26. What would be their theme song?

Okay, I absolutely cannot credit myself for coming up with this, because I saw it in a fic a long time ago by an author who is no longer in this fandom, but she had Gendrya’s first wedding dance set to “Something” by The Beatles. Ever since then, I can’t get it out of my head as their song, so that’s what I’ll go with, and here’s a list of other songs that scream Gendrya to me:

10. Something that made you cry this year?

I am a very frequent cryer. I can cry on cue basically at this point, but what really got me emotionally this year is watching my two best friends tie the knot. It was such a beautiful moment and a long time coming, and sigh, it was just amazing to be in the presence of real love. Cried like a little betch in the front row.

11. Something you want to do again next year?

I’ve done a ton of travel this year and I want to continue that into 2020. I have so many places on my list, but really want to visit Berlin. I’ve seen so much of Germany but not that part and it’s calling to me <3.

12. Talk about a new friend you made this year.

Don’t read if you don’t want sappy shit. The only reason I even found the Gendrya fam and have had my confidence restored in my writing is @thelandofnothing. We were mutually fan!girling over each other’s work on ao3 and she reached out to me and offered to review bits of this silly little story I was plotting back in May. Without her, I would never have posted The Last Time or ever joined tumblr or ever reawakened my writing muse.

Beyond just being my #1 cheerleader, she’s also just a dope ass person. She speaks her mind, is wise beyond her years, and is probably one of the fiercest people I know. At my age, you don’t make friends for life, let alone ones who live across the world from you, but like it or not, she’s part of my life squad now, and I’ll cut a bitch for her any day.
