A high school in Kyoto recieves an illustration for their school festival's Saiki play from Asou-sensei!

"A high school in Kyoto is going to perform Saiki's play at their school festival. I was so happy that I took the liberty of drawing a flyer for it, and I would be happy if you could use it! As soon as I was about to post it, I realized that I had misspelled the kanji for “play”. Don't use it after all."

New illustration! Denpagumi.inc members feat. Saiki cast.

An official Denpagumi.inc Twitter account posted an illustration done by Asou Shuuichi-sensei to celebrate their latest performace at Animelo Summer Live 2024 -Stargazer-! where they performed Saiki Kusuo no Psi Nan's second Opening - Sai Sai Saikouchou, among the others!

Shuichi Asou's Opinion on Fanworks?

Hello there! Thank you so much for all the work you do to make information about Shuichi Asou and his works accessible to English speakers. I was wondering if you could help answer a question I had, though feel completely free to ignore me if its too much trouble. Do you know if Shuichi Asou has ever outlined any guidelines for fanart for his works, or otherwise expressed any opinion on fanarts/fanworks?

Thanks for the kind words! I should post on this blog a bit more while I still have time haha Though I'm happy I still have active readers on here despite my recent inactivity. I appreciate it. I'm always here to answer any questions best to my ability.

But back to the question!

I did a quick search on sensei's twitter to answer this question and I'll try to respond as best as I can! And..

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's fine with fanworks.

I have found a funny tweet he's made in early 2016 which lead to an interaction that might be what we're looking for. I linked it at the end of this post. (translated it to the best of my ability + used Inspect Element to make it easier to read)

(he mentioned the girl being most likely a SaiKai fan btw) Then, someone lightheartedly replied asking if that letter actually made him angry, to which he responded:

I don't think he has ever said anything else on the matter of any guidelines when it comes to fanfics... So he probably just doesn't care lol

For some more, but anecdotal evidence: I've also heard from some veteran japanese Saiki fans that he doesn't mind fanfics. I myself have a big "Makokuu fan" written on my twitter bio which didn't seem to bother sensei when he complimented my artworks lolol

It's not much, but this is all I could find at this time. :D
