so I wrote this poem
I wrote this poem the other day and I want it to incorporate it into my fanfiction, so it sort of turned into a short excerpt. enjoy! ;)
"Mom, can you tell us the poem?" Aspynn asks me, sounding scared. She always masks her fear, so to hear her sounding so terrified breaks my heart. The three of us lie in mine and Theo's bed, curled up close to each other.
"Sure," I form my lips into a smile. Theo leans back on the headboard, pulling Aspynn close to his chest. I nestle myself in as well, angling my chin up for a sweet kiss before I start reciting the poem. He kisses Aspynn's forehead as well, sighing deeply. His chest rises and falls, one of his arms coming around Aspynn, the other around my shoulders. His natural protectiveness is calming, and I swear my pounding heart seems to slow. I hold his hand, twirling my fingers in his.
"So much is expected of our Guardian Angels To watch over us in all that we need. How we always find the most dangerous things And how we're always to be saved from them. So much is expected of ourselves To watch over ourselves as well. To know when too much is too much Or not enough is not enough. We need to put trust in our own judgment, But then also realize that it will always be second guessed. Our Guardian Angels will always be behind us, next to us And also one step in front of us. Somehow, humans will always be humans. Yet Angels will always be Angels."
I recite the poem from memory, all of the words in exactly the right places.
