The Kamakhya temple, also known as the Temple of Kamrup-Kamakhya, is a temple of the Hindu mother goddess Kamakhya. Among the 51 Shakti Pithas, Kamakhya temple is the oldest one. Kamakhya temple is situated on a Nilachal hill in the west of Guwahati town in Assam, India. Among the ten individual temples Kali, Sodashi, Bhuvaneshwari, Tara, Dhumavati, Chhinnamasta, Bagalamukhi, Bhairavi, Kamalatmika and Matangi. Sati wanted to go to the yagna, but her husband, Lord Shiva, denied her permission. Lord Vishnu intervened in order to save the universe, and thus he cut her body into 108 sections by using his Sudarshan Chakra.
