On November 11, Pawnee City School presents their annual Veterans Day Program. Singers from grades 3-12 and the high school band performed in the Veterans Day program.
Choir teacher, Ms. Kristi Robison said, “Every year I think the Veteran's Day program gets better and better. I always ask myself how can it ever be topped...but each year it seems to happen. After missing the 2020 program due to Covid, it was very special to have everyone backing people to honor these special men and women. The songs seem to lend themselves to making the program very special each year and this year I think the students did an amazing job. This year marked the 15th year of doing the Veteran's Day Remembrance program and it is my favorite concert of the entire year.”
We had a guest speaker come in to speak about his experiences with the Air Force. After graduating from the Academy in 1984, he attended Pilot Training. After that, he then served on Active Duty at Offutt Air Force Base, NE. In 1998 he transferred to the Nebraska Air National Guard in Lincoln, and he retired in 2008. Lt Colonel Novak is a command Pilot with over 5,000 hours of military flight time, having flown 76 Combat and Combat Support missions, accumulating 350 Combat Hours.
We also had a Quilt of Valor presentation as well. Larry Sinagoga was presented with a quilt of Valor by his grandson, JJ Maynard. His grandson surprised his grandfather with the Quilt of Valor that he had made in 4-H.
Finally, the school was awarded the Freedom Award Certificate, Pro Patria and the Nebraska National Guard Homeland Defense Service Ribbon. Only an active service member can nominate employers for these awards, and this year, Pawnee City School was nominated by our sign language interpreter, Mrs. Alicia Moyer.
