Systematic deficiency of PBS must be addressed to resolve issue
The systematic deficiency of the School-Based Assessment (PBS) system must be addressed as a prerequisite condition to resolve this issue.
Gerakan central education bureau chairman Lau Chin Hoon said there are several systematic issues regarding PBS that must be solved such as whether the resources for implementation and monitoring are sufficient.
“While putting the PBS system on hold is the right move, repealing it or flip-flopping is not good as we must address the deficiencies in the system that produce instability in the PBS,” he said yesterday.
Lau said that every problem must be tackled first or else any future implementation “will eventually meet its impending doom as the cycle will just keep repeating”.
Meanwhile, Parent Action Group for Education Malaysia (PAGE) welcomed the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) decision to put the PBS system on hold.
PAGE said the ministry needs to understand that it needs to engage the stakeholders especially parents and educators before implementing any policy change.
“With this in place, only then can Malaysia provide the best education system with the cooperation of all,” it said in a statement.
Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh yesterday said the MOE would not abolish the PBS system.
He said an announcement on the new form and implementation of the PBS system would be announced on April 1.
