Assignment 17 - What If...
“Tequila House? You’re joking right?” Monroe scoffed as she looked at her father across the table. Aaron had informed his daughter moments ago that he wanted her to infiltrate the underground cartel Parker Carrington was running. As slick as he was, Aaron Baker knew his way around his city. He knew the ins and outs of Charlotte better than anyone, which was why he had been known as such a powerful business man - above and underground. He knew who to team up with, and who to take care of to ensure he stayed on top. The idea behind Monroe becoming one of the sex workers for the club was that she’d be able to learn what occurred behind the scenes. She’d learn how he operated and what his weaknesses were. The only thing that annoyed Monroe about the whole thing was needing to play dumb and submit to the Carrington boy. Monroe was raised to be manipulative in whatever way was necessary, but she was one who craved power, especially at the age of 19. The last thing she wanted was to be controlled by more men.
“Listen, Roe. If you get in and team up with Parker, you could earn big bucks for them and ultimately get into their circle. You work your way up. In order to do that, you must start out this way. Imagine what it can do for us.” Monroe couldn’t help but shake her head once again at her father. “I’m worth more than just my body, Dad.” She scoffed at him, staring at the man who raised her. Sometimes Monroe believed that she was nothing more than a pretty face and no brains due to the way men, especially in the ring treated her. It’s as if they forgot that women were just as capable as them. “Don’t get emotional about this, Roe. It’s business.” Aaron answered back, crossing his arms over his desk as he awaited for his daughter’s agreement. “Fuck. No.” She answered, rolling her eyes.

Sitting in the cafe, Monroe stared down at her ring finger, taking a deep breath as memories of the first time she had met Parker Carrington flashed through her head. Meeting under unusual circumstances, the two had an unusual love story. The first time she had met the man who was now her husband was meant for strictly business; Monroe’s father wanted her to become one of the Carrington’s sex workers in order to become a part of their circle and figure out their weaknesses. Monroe agreed to the proposal, given the fact that she was so loyal to her father. Wanting to make him proud and wanting to solidify her spot in the mafia, she did whatever he asked her to do.
To her surprise, Parker ended up becoming her weakness. Meeting his bright blue eyes for the first time nearly knocked the wind out of her. Love at first sight wasn’t something that Monroe ever believed in until Parker -- love in general had never been a thought in her mind but something about him changed her.
She kept her eyes on the diamond ring that fit perfectly around her finger as she thought about what being Aaron Baker’s daughter had brought to her life. Monroe was running two successful business under one roof, having the title of mafia princess, and being married to the love of her life. If she had turned down the job proposition her father gave her, Monroe knew for a fact that her life wouldn’t be where it was now. She’d more than likely be living a much simpler life where her husband wasn’t a rival business, and she wasn’t married to begin with. A soft sigh escaped her lips as she shook her head at the thought of what life would’ve been like if she turned down infiltrating Tequila House.
A soft ring of a bell echoed throughout her empty cafe, causing her head to turn towards the door. Meeting the familiar oceanic orbs of her husband, Monroe’s lips smiled softly as she hopped off the counter. “You ready to go, angel?” Parker asked as he walked towards her. Meeting him halfway, she wrapped her arms around him, leaning up to press a soft kiss against his lips. As their lips touched, Monroe remembered that things happened for a reason. As much as she wished they had met under different circumstances, life worked out the way they were meant to. As unconventional as their relationship was, Monroe couldn’t have been happier. “Let’s go home, handsome.” She answered back, grinning.
