Exactly. And literally the episode after they kissed...like she couldn't even give them a couple episodes to be happy. Daisy Goodwin's "celebrated" writing. Yawn.

It was the classic bury your gays trope. He was apparently shot. Connecting happy loving gay couple to death.... not good. And nobody should even point out “historically this happened” because A. I doubt he died the way he did on the show and B. Daisy Goodwin could bring herself to kill Lord M off but could do this.....

Please write a vicbert au fanfic! Or any vicbert fanfic for that matter. Oneshot or multiple chapters, I'm down for anything. This fandom is just bombarded with Vicbourne fanfic, that I'm like, "Where are my two fluffy, nerdy favs who love and support each other and have a hundred kids?"

Also, as to your predicament, I think distant cousins by marriage would be acceptable for a modern au.

I know -- I need more of my fluffy, nerdy faves! And, yes, the comparative lack of Vicbert fic was really surprising to me, too. I mean, I hold fast to a “ship and let ship” policy where people are totally free write and read whatever they want -- and, of course, no one should feel particularly beholden to stick to canon -- but I also wish there was more V&A fic (whether canon or AU) out there. 

(On a side note, I do feel the need to recommend “A Marriage of Equals”, which is stunningly written and well-researched, and so true to character that I want to cry...)

YES!! Please do!!! I concur, we need Vicbert fic desperately! You could do it where Leopold is just Albert's uncle and Princess Charlotte is Victoria's cousin, making Albert the nephew of Victoria's cousin's husband (I think?), but no blood relation.

That makes sense -- so the only difference is that Leopold and Victoria’s mother aren’t siblings? Thanks for the suggestion!

Anyway, I totally appreciate all the encouragement -- I’m going to need a little time to let the story settle in my head but then I may see what I can do with it. In the meantime, I’ve posted another AU moodboard, which I hope is enough of a consolation!

Because Daisy Goodwin seems to be against using any of the historical material.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's leading up to the repeal of the Corn Laws and Peel sacrificing his ministry to so so. We'll probably continue to see Victoria (and therefore the audience) warm up to him so that there's emotional weight when he effectively ends his own career on "noble" grounds.

Yea that wouldn’t a be a climax, it would be an important moment but a climax is something that effects Victoria, so when she gets married to Albert that’s a first season climax, then when she gives birth that’s another.
