Do you think the 'it's illegal to own human remains' myth was perpetuated in the same way the 'don't touch baby birds or the parent will abandon it' in that people spread it to try to keep others from doing it?
If I had to speculate, I’d hazard that people just figure it must be true, so they say it like it’s a fact, to sound smart.
Once I was using my phone to record someone in public in LA because I thought she might start a fight or something. She didn’t, but then when I put down the phone and she realized she was being recorded she started saying over and over “It’s illegal in the state of California to record a person.”
It’s definitely…definitely not illegal in the World Capital of Filming People, to film people, but people don’t care to fact-check laws before spouting them, I guess.
