angie would you be so kind to explain the cressder dynamic and why it was popular (i think. i wasn't aware). i love them both but i'm not sure i see the potential! change my mind i want more lesbians in my life

so i think it’s the fact that they’re so similar yet so different. they were both dehumanized then forced to to only do one job for the rest of their lives. because cinder was a cyborg, people hated her and she was forced to only do mechanic work. because cress was a shell, people hated her and she was forced to be a hacker. ik it’s not specifically like that, but somewhere along those lines. both of them felt lonely and isolated for the better part of their lives. they both turned to tech. cinder still had peony, but cress had no one. also, evil mother figures?!!

but both of them turned out so differently. cinder was rebellious, sarcastic, and snarky. cress was curious, shy, and awkward. i mean they were both awkward. they also both had an inner desire to belong, even after a life of people telling them they didn’t belong anywhere. their confidence also grew and manifested throughout the books. so, despite their many different character traits, they are very similar.

i haven’t pondered enough on cressder to tell you the exact dynamic, but i think they’d bond over their feelings of loneliness and trauma. then, over time, they’d find aspects of themselves in each and resonate. it becomes very easy to be vulnerable with each other as well. it’s probably cinder that taught cress to not wait for anyone to save her. it was probably cress that taught cinder to always hold hope for the feature, even if things are bleary and dark.

plus, they’d share so many hobbies together. i imagine cinder tinkering with a droid, cress asking to program it, then cinder teasing her, asking “do you not have faith in my programming skills?” and cress reddens, apologizing. i mean, cinder probably loves it when cress gets all flustered.

and they’re tech nerdssss. they probably nerd out together in canon, but even more so if they’re together.

well, there’s probably more i can add, but then again, i was only semi into cressder. this makes me want to think about it more . did that make sense?

context, i’m horrible at math, and i was complaining about how my hw is about stuff we haven’t learned yet and one of our friends say that it’s literally the easiest math you can take and anybody who doesn’t know how to do the problems is stupid. needless to say, the whole table went quiet. i literally shut up for the rest of the night, waited for everybody to leave, then started sobbing while listening to mr brightside. i was also personally going through insecure thoughts, like i’m not enough, i’m not smart enough for this career, why wasn’t i born to have a stem brain, and i literally broke. i mean, if it’s my own thoughts, i can get over those. someone else saying what you have been thinking, it makes it feel real. so. yeah.

idk, i love my major, but i might be too dumb. well.

she also argued w me for abt ten minutes that heathcliff could NEVER be Black and I was like ???I think he’s Romani but there’s no reason he can’t be Black like. it still fits better than MR WHITE MAN

she wants to watch the movie and im like. IT MISSES THE POINT OF THE BOOK DONT DO IT ITS AN EXCUSE FOR SOFT CORE PORN IN THEATRES IT DOESNT CARE ABT THE BOOK AT ALL

yes, heathcliff is inherently evil, like catherine, but a big part of his backstory and to the revenge plot is the racism that he experienced as a child. i do believe he would be evil no matter what race he was, but the fact that he was oppressed against because of his skin color is VERY important. emily brontë specifically made him non-white to explore those themes of racism and how it can impact a family, no matter how small.

the fact that he was an unnamed race is important as well because it shows how people of that time viewed different colored people. ringer: they viewed them all the same. which is inferior. to the white people.

THE REASON WHY HE GETS REVENGE IS BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE WAS RACIST TO HIM. he wanted to be part of the in-crowd. the rich and wealthy. he wanted catherine. yet, at a very young age, he was told he would never get any of that in his life. ever. why? BECAUSE HE WASN’T WHITE. edgar looks upon him in disgust as a child because he was brown. nelly looks at heathcliff with pity, yet still feels revulsion to his race. hindley literally abuses him because he’s not white and only gets worse after his drinking/gambling problem. a big part of his character is him desiring things out of his reach so much that it drives him mad and him taking revenger on all the people who looked down on him. like i said before, this all happens because of the racism and violence he experienced. while i do believe heathcliff is evil in every universe, wuthering heights wouldn’t be the same book if he was white.

so yes. his race is central to the plot because without it, there would be no plot. the oppression he faced is what nurtured the evil inside of him to flourish and successfully get revenge on his abusers and their successors.

i also think heathcliff is romani!! yet, there’s also the possibility he COULD be black. it’s not specifically stated in the book. because they viewed all dark-skinned people as inferior, it could be any race that matches the description. so i couldn’t disregard black heathcliff at all! BLACK HEATHCLIFF IS MORE CANON THAT WHITE. HEATHCLIFF IS NOT WHITE. HE IS NOT WHITE BROOOO.

i just hate heathcliff and cathy so much. they’re so evil. that’s why i keep going back to them. evil ass hoes.

I SAW THE MOVIE! IT’S BUNS! i will say, margot robbie was lowkey capturing cathy’s character UNTIL it got all sexual. cathy was sort of evil but not yet. and then she was horny. it does NOT follow the books at all. oh, and i hate any wuthering heights movie that claims to be an adaption if it ignores the second half of the book. there we see more of heathcliff’s true nature and his evil doings. we also see how it impacts everyone’s future. HE’S JUST SO EVIL!!

don’t watch the movie. please change your mom’s mind. disregarding heathcliff’s race is basically disregarding heathcliff as a whole. it’s part of his character development, his reasonings, and his actions. brontë wouldn’t have brought it up so much if it wasn’t important. UGHHHH!!!!
