I just want you to know that I reread Astielle and god the early chapters hit really different when you can tell when Karzarul is lying to Minnow. Particularly the parts where she asks directly if he knows the King of All Monsters and he's like "...yeah I know the guy. He's not gonna go out of his way to kill you. Trust."

Things I forgot happened in Astielle, since I'm doing a re-read:

Leonas either gave Minona an enchanted hysterectomy or did something surgically magical to stop her having fucked up periods, and honestly I would fall in love with him after that as well

Karzarul finds a book series in Minona's house about a mermaid (in universe called an abysscale) having sexy adventures fucking various pirate men and women. Karzarul becomes incredibly flustered and doesn't let them look at the books, and it's so very obviously true stories about him from the past (and then later in the story we get a flashback to his fuckboy mermaid days).

Minona has calcified teeth from her time as a changeling, and she doesn't get cavities.

Really enjoying this re-read :3 I'm not going to think about the painful bits that I know are coming and instead I'm excitedly anticipating the slowly forming polycule :3

How far in Astielle did you write before you posted the first chapter? In general, how do you figure out where you want to start a story?

lmao i posted chapter one on tumblr when i wrote it and then a year later when i realized it needed leonas i wrote chapter two and started putting it on my site

i don't really figure anything out, it just sort of happens. sometimes i get it wrong and those end up not going anywhere entirely because i tried to start in the wrong place.

Was discussing Beethoven's 9th, and how most of the symphony is building to the introduction of the Ode to Joy theme in the 4th movement, 2/3 into the whole 70-minute symphony. How the entire piece exists because of, and for the purpose of, the Ode to Joy.

And I referred to it as "Unpretty's Astielle Gangbang" of classical music.
