To say that spirit work isn't dangerous from the start is dangerous in and of itself. Everything magical has inherent danger and to convey something that has more danger than normal is to lead people into a false sense of a security that can get them into trouble. The original post wasn't about fearmongering, it was merely to alert beginners that there's dangers and they need to be protected and aware of them to be safe. They never said to not work with spirits, just to be safe and aware.
Hi, Anon. Let’s talk about the post you’re referring to.
First, let’s both give each other the benefit of intelligence and acknowledge that the entire purpose of the original post was to elicit an emotional and fearful reaction in the reader. (even Tone Analyzer agrees).
Secondly, I’d like to remind you and the OP that when you refer to Spirit Work - you are including someone’s personal Ancestors, Guides, Guardians, and even the Holy Spirit itself if they are Christian. Making a blatant statement that Spirit Work itself is somehow inherently dangerous isn’t just ignorant but it is disrespectful to those that call on these benevolent spirits for love, help, advice, and guiding wisdom.
Furthermore, IF the post HAD been about educating beginners on safe Spirit Work, it might have included some actual information about how to remain safe when working with let’s just call them unpredictable spirits (spirits that are not inherently benevolent towards humans)… rather than just line after line of BE AFRAID! BE VERY AFRAID!! 🙄
I will say again. Spirit Work is not any more inherently dangerous than going on a hike. Just like knowing how to be safe when in nature, you should know how to be safe when working in metaphysics, but this extends to ALL metaphysics - not just Spirit Work. Spirit Work isn’t somehow more dangerous than any other thing in life. Be smart, know how to be safe, and you’re good.
Finally, there is no inherent danger in magic. If you believe as I and many others do - that magic is the essence by which the energy of the universe is held together and works in balance with itself, then the mere thought of it being dangerous to invoke is ridiculous. Nearly everyone uses magic on a daily basis to bring their intention into action and manifestation, whether someone calls it that or not. Honestly the belief that magic is inherently dangerous is an outdated one left over from an uneducated culture fearful of beliefs and practices different from a mainstream and restrictive religious viewpoint. All people have magic, and can use magic. It is as natural as breathing - as is an awareness and ability to interact with spirits around us.
If you or the OP honestly fear magic and astral residing beings, then I would say that an Intentional Magical Practice is not for them. There is no place for fear or fearmongering in a spiritual experience that which fundamentally acknowledges the natural Other beings that reside here with us and share our space.
