🥃 ⋆⛧ ”not for nothing man, but you look like you’d rather be anywhere else but on this ship,” dean hadn’t quite figured out yet that people were onboard the cambria one against their will. he should have recognized it was a thing - but, call him being hopeful for once. “you doing alright?” he asked, kind of vaguely feeling like he knew who this was without being able to place it. as he turned to accept his coffee at the observation deck cafe before heading down to the bar. “you know, you look familiar have we somehow met before? like fairly, i’ve been to a lot of places in my life - so i can’t count out anything but damn, i feel like i know you...?”

||      “   YOU’RE A SMART MAN.   ”       the way she says it,   though  —  it’s always about tone,   and frankly,   emma kind of sounds a little bit like she’s sucking a lemon,   tart - tongued and full of pits.   the lunar review is empty,   because of course it is,   because it’s been near empty most days since they’ve gotten here  —  so she is content with sitting at the bar instead of observing,   instead of walking around.

it isn’t unlike her to take a job seriously,   even though she doesn’t want to be here.   she likes the thought of being second even less,   so she’ll do what she must,   simple as that.   emma’s never been anything if not resilient.   diamonds,   and all that.

⚰️ - “you should get a piano installed in here,” lestat chimed as he turned his back to the other, a waved hand in the air. “i would graciously lend my talents for free, something to show emma at what she fails to do.” he smirked, finally turning to face scott. “you must be her amour, yes?” he looked scott over and hummed a bit before flashing a smile, “i can see why. you are handsome and i can sense a stalwart loyalty about you. maybe a bit boring but given someone like her, boring is a good thing.” he added, a shrugged shoulder as he moved to play with a leftover martini glass. “she has talked about me to you, hasn’t she? probably an ‘annoyance’ a ‘thorn in her side’? please, do tell me.”

||             SHE DROPS HER PHONE   ?   DEVICE   ?   WHATEVER,    onto her bed, some sort of anxiety itching in the palms of her hands. she’d like a quiver right about now, the slice of a bow through it, something that made more sense than  —  this. 

maybe she can’t complain, though. she has cassie. when has anything ever made more sense than her   ?

“   okay. do we have a map of this place   ?   it might actually be on our little  —  phone things, but i don’t know how to work it just yet. a map would be so helpful, though, in trying to figure out where to explore first. i know we’re probably with all the   ...   apartments.   ”      it’s unhelpful. she stands, the tug of her lip between her teeth in nervous display.      “   we could just go the way we came   ?   ”

||     SCOTT SUMMERS SAID    :     ❝    are you sure there isn’t anything i can do to help you in the kitchen ?    ❞

||        IT’S A LAUGHABLE QUESTION FOR TWO REASONS.       the first is that they hardly use the kitchen. they hadn’t back on earth, they hadn’t in their separate rooms, and they certainly wouldn’t be expected to, here. scott cooks about as much as she does, which is part of the second reason. @astranomic​ wouldn’t be in the kitchen, if he had any choice in it. the second reason is that neither would emma. 

in fact, it’s almost a little bit mortifying to be in the kitchen, because it means she’s trying to be nice. it means she’s trying. emma doesn’t try at anything  —  she just does, and it turns out right. that’s the proper way the earth turns. except for here, apparently, hurtling through space. 

the whole point of this was because she wanted to decorate the kitchen.

“   i’m sure.   ”      it comes a little testy, almost through gritted teeth. she’s staring down at the soggy zucchini and wished, for not the first time in her life, that she was just a little kinder. softer. surely things like this came to better people.      “   everything’s fine. i hope you like your food ... wet.   ”

||     JOSIE SALTZMAN SAID    :     ❝    i almost got killed for a frog ?    ❞

||        ADRENALINE RACES LIKE IT’S ON A TRACK,        aiming for gold. she can feel it in the rapid thrum of her pulse, in the way she sucks in breath, her arms around josie’s waist having pulled her away from what she assumes to be an emergency exit latch, of some sort. could she be wrong   ?   yes.   could it be just another door   ?   yes.   did mia want to test it   ?   no.

@astranomic​ has her arms around the frog in question, who croaks quietly in the nestle of her elbow. it’s only when everyone is firmly on her feet that mia backs away, gingerly taking the frog with her. it looks  —  normal   ?   which is surprising, almost. mia expected something a little more alien.

then again, a frog as a concept in general always had alien vibes. 

“  hoooooooly shit. okay. everything’s fine, you’re  — good, right   ?   okay.   ”      the frog croaks again, hopping back from her hands into josie’s. mia blinks.      “   do we  —  keep it   ?   i mean, i’m not sure who to talk to about  —  this.   ”

||        she kind of misses the rain.        truthfully, mia doesn’t know if it can actually rain in space or not, but she’d like to think she’s mostly confident it can’t, that  —  that space weather, or whatever, is kind of different. at the very least, she hasn’t seen any rain.

she misses it. funny, what you miss when it’s gone.

mia’s only staring out the window in the gym for a moment when the movement behind her startles her. the powdered chalk drops, dusts her shorts, but she doesn’t mind. she’d been gearing up to start climbing, anyway.     “   hi   !   are you looking to climb   ?   ”

||          there’s nothing to pack.          it makes sense, of course, given that they had nothing really with them  —  but it still feels strange, somehow. emma holds no attachment to her room   (  in reality, she’s spent more time here with scott than she had in her own box  )   and she knows scott holds none either, but  —  strangeness lingers. 

she’s never shared a space with someone before, not really. back home, scott had been a frequent presence in her apartment  —  had spent many a night there, curled in her bed, actually  —  but he always had somewhere else to return to. it worries her, maybe, that they won’t have that anymore. it worries her, maybe, that the other person he went to was here now. change was something she didn’t handle with ease, despite how easy she made it look. it almost feels like giving in to the reality that home was gone. this was it, now.

they’re waiting on the reassignment. emma doesn’t mind lounging on his couch for a touch longer, lost in thought.     “   do you think we’ll move next to someone irritating   ?   ”
