Dear Shahir, why oh why did you have to become a psycho serial-killer?! I've only seen this video twice now and I still don't get why he had to play this role.
After almost a year riding on the success of his first single "Kebahagiaan Dalam Perpisahan", a good run on the publicity trail and then disappearing into a long hiatus, the winner of last year's Akademi Fantasia (AF8) finally comes out from his silence and snags the award for Best Male New Artist in the recent Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian 2010. Perfect timing for the launch of his latest single "Luar Biasa", composed by Audi Mok, best known for his work on Faizal Tahir's songs. I suppose the song may be a "slow-grower". It does have that Audi Mok signature feel to it.
After being somewhat oblivious to the regional music scene for some time while away, I honestly thought AF was done and dusted. Apparently not. No doubt the "instant talent" that does come out of these reality shows, rarely have that staying power to survive the real world. Moreover the winners are based on SMS votes, therefore making it more of a popularity contest rather than one for true talent. No different is this to any other reality show.
I started watching AF again last year and laughed it off in the beginning. But I still watched it! I must say I was impressed with Shahir, who really was the dark horse of the whole competition.
I still have no idea why this year's AF9 will be the last ever. They couldn't make an AF10? The glass house is a little strange and Aznil's back as host, but has turned it into his own love-fest. So the real question is, if this is the last ever show, what's going to take its place?
