I was wondering about the significance of the 1st house on one’s personality. For example, My 1st house is ruled by Libra but Mercury is also in my 1st house.

So, as for personality and your first house influence I find that it indicates what parts of yourself you show off the most visibly (but subconsciously) aka your classic "how you come across" rising topic
Taking your example - I think of someone expressing charming elegance in all their actions while at the same time considering communication and learning as an inherent, crucial part of themselves (so really wearing that on your sleeve & identifying with it)
