#Repost @djreymo with @get_repost ・・・ #Repost @puertoricorob ・・・ This breaks my heart knowing all the struggles my Island has been going through 🇵🇷💔😭😞 #Repost @angelamariaotg ・・・ I want you to see what is happening TODAY in Puerto Rico—because the news is not showing it. These images were taken by one of our #ateamOTG members @xgphoto01 who captured the protests against what can best be described as GENTRIFICATION. . The closing of 283 schools will come this August, to include DEAF schools being affected and one having just closed. (To give you perspective, PR is about as populated as Los Angeles, quite small so imagine the impact.) The lack of recovery efforts after the hurricane and these shutdowns are increasing the island’s poverty rate to 60%. In more simpler terms: the government is strategically pushing it’s own people out of their island only to have the rich come in and buy land; only the rich will be able to go to school; and no special needs child, Deaf nor Blind will be able to go to school. . Solution: Puerto Ricans can fight back by STAYING on the island or returning to the island; for Puerto Ricans in the US to come to the island to buy property now that prices are at an all time low, very cheap. Otherwise Puerto Rico will be no different than the US was in the 1950’s where kids of color won’t be able to go to school. . Feel free to repost and share.
