“Nothing really bad has ever happened to you, has it? Because when it does, you don’t need any external reminders of your insignificance to the universe.”
- Dr. Athena Morrow, Humans.
You don't need me any more, V. You've outgrown this. You need to go and explore.
No one can judge Athena’s choice to keep his daughter alive, somehow, a least for a while. I’m glad she let V go, especially when she wasn’t ready to say goodbye.
This hurt me so much.

Overnights at the Airport
@humanschallenge Week 1 Day 5: After the End Athena looked at the time again. Two in the morning. Only ten minutes later than the last time she looked. She let out a loud sigh as she straightened in the chair and slipped her glasses back on. The man in the row across from her seemed to be comfortably sleeping. She hoped her glare would wake him up. He was one of the few in the airport that were actually sleeping. The majority were either arguing with airlines representatives, watching the news of the conscious synths unfold, or grumbling about the people around them that somehow managed to fall asleep. Athena’s plane was almost ready to board when the synths began ‘waking up.’ She had never seen such panic in the faces of her fellow humans as the synths began acting out whatever whim came to their conscious minds. Only a handful of flights could still make it out. They had human pilots while the others were synthetic and in no condition to fly. Athena watched the news as the reports of all planes that were en route being flown by synths finally made it to land. None actually landed in their original destination, but it all things considered, it could’ve been worse. Now the airlines were begging for the pilots they had previously fired to replace with synthetics to come back. Salaries would be raised, benefits would multiply, anything request was open so long as they came back and flew these planes. Of course, it only led to the pilots negotiating and flights were canceled and people stranded in the airport. Athena was one of them Before she could succumb to pointlessly chasing after sleep again, her phone began buzzing. The caller id was blocked. Athena considered ignoring it. It was probably Milo, trying to get her to come back and help him and convince her that it would all be ‘for the greater good.’ But what if it was Hobb? Surely he had something to say about what was happening and might even know who did this. Against her better judgment, she answered. “Hello?” “Dr. Morrow?” Well that wasn’t a voice she recognized. “Yes...how did you get this number?” Athena began trying to remember all of Milo’s female associates that matched this woman’s voice. “That doesn’t matter right now. I need your help.” "If Milo told you to call me, you can tell him to shove your phone up his ass.” Athena snapped. She was exhausted, emotionally and physically. Milo was the last thing she wanted to deal with. “No, he didn’t. I don’t even know who that is-” “Then I’m sorry, but whatever this is, I’m not interested.” “Would you let me speak?!” Athena raised a brow as the short outburst. Seemed like she wasn’t the only one exhausted. She gave a small huff. “My friend was injured and he needs to be operated on-” “Take him to the hospital then. I’m not a medical doctor.” “We can’t. He’s part synthetic.” Athena blinked. That was something she never thought she’d hear in her lifetime. “What do you mean he’s...” she paused and looked around. It wouldn’t do good for others to hear that bit of information right now. “I mean exactly what I said.” “But...how is that possible?” She blew out a frustrated sigh. “Look, we can give you all the answers you want, but first we need you to come help.” Athena closed her eyes. She knew exactly what she was going to respond and she was already regretting her answer. Damn her curiosity. “Alright. What’s the address?” “I can’t give you the address. Someone will pick you up at the airport. She’ll call you when she’s close.” Athena shook her head. This woman had her personal cell number, knew she was still at the airport. What else did they know about her? “Wait, I’m agreeing to all of this and still know nothing about you or what I’m getting into exactly. At least give me a name.” There was a long pause and Athena almost thought she hung up. But then she finally spoke again. “Mattie. I’ll give you more details when you’re here.” The phone clicked. Athena gathered her things and walked towards the exit. She definitely wasn’t going to get any sleep now.
