Hey Arthur, I don’t mean to put pressure on you to speak for a whole group, but for you personally what term(s) would you prefer to BIPOC? Feel free to delete this ask if you don’t want to answer or just don’t have the bandwidth, this question is coming from a person who you have no obligation or connection to. I would ask that if this message is actually really problematic you say so so that I can learn, but that is up to you. Again, I don’t mean to tokenize you or make you uncomfortable, so I’m really sorry if I did.
Me personally, I try to be specific to the group that I’m talking about. So if I’m talking about Black issues I say Black, if I’m talking about Indigenous issues I say Indigenous (or even better if I’m referring to a specific tribe I say the name of the tribe), so on and so forth. If I’m generally talking about poc, I just say poc. I just don’t think the term bipoc really adds anything to the lexicon that poc or individual words like Black or Indigenous or Asian or Latine didn’t, and after reading more about antiBlackness in Indigenous communities I don’t really feel comfy lumping Black and Indigenous issues together in the way that bipoc as a term does
