Here's a little thing I wrote about the Pride parade in Atlanta, and why my family marches.

This weekend was beautiful.
Oh well this escalated quickly #ATLPride2014

Overheard at ATL Pride
The couple in front of me – two tall white dudes with slicked-over hair, wearing preppy button-ups, tight shorts and flip-flops – is walking from Midtown station to Piedmont Park.
Guy 1, whiny: "This walk is sooOOooo long!!!" Guy 2, consoling: "Well... we're gay..." Guy 1, reflective: "That's true..."
Went to the Heaven party for ATL Pride last night. It was fun, but it reminded me how pointless clubbing/"partying" is for meeting people. I need to have a conversation with someone before I deem them interesting, and while being surrounded by cuties is certainly enjoyable (and relaxing, due to the dearth of straight men), it's kind of meaningless.
The only conversation I had all evening that wasn't screamed over pounding music was when I was leaving and found a drop-dead-drunk girl upstairs. She was passed out sleeping on the floor, and I dithered but decided to gently wake her up and see what I could do about getting her home (images of people dying choking on vomit in my mind). She could barely talk ("What's your name?" – "It's up there..." *points at the ceiling* – "No it's not, silly. What's your name?" – "Shelby...") but was smiley and cuddly and let me get her upright, and I started prodding for answers. "Do you have a roommate? ... Callie, okay. Is she here tonight? Is her number in your phone? ... Can I give her a call and ask her to come get you?" Eventually Callie showed up and informed Shelby that she was "in so much trouble" and took her away with the assistance of a security guard.
The best part of the night was probably chatting with my Uber driver, a trans guy called Landon, on the way home. We talked about all manner of things, and I just remembered I still need to go on the app and give him a good rating. He mentioned a certain leather bar to me, although I couldn't entirely tell if he was recommending it or warning me off. Maybe both. Anyway, conclusion: Pride is a wonderful thing, but I haven't quite figured out what one is supposed to DO with it yet. Meghan Trainor and Colbie Caillat are playing at the park tonight... maybe I'll go hear them.
Slowly getting ready to head down to Pride, I'm SO EXCITED AAAAH. Full day of hanginh with tolucian and a few awesome friends and prolly pictures and selfies to come... If it gets too much i am prolly gonna tag them with #atlpride2014 and #girlfriend_shenanigans so yeah! Haha. I hope anyone going has an absolure blast!!
