Of course, he's so freaking mesmerized about you straddling him, your legs wrapped around his hip-tail and honestly? You could kill him like that because he doesn't even want to move. It feels like you belong there, on top of him, riding him. But at the same time he wants to do so many more things with you like this.
Some innocent once like grabbing you and cuddling you, or having you sleep on top of him. Rub your back and feed you like a hungry little pet.
But of course there are also a lot of lewd thoughts that can't help but appear in his mind.
And yet, because of his nature, he just stays there, quietly, still. Observing you, taking in every little sight of you.

I'm sure you're probably tired of talking about it, but how /would/ Atreo respond to a darling who wasn't getting pregnant? Like if they were unable to or too sickly to maintain it? I feel like he's the type of dick to blame them for everything and try to convince them to do better as though that's actually something they had control over lmao

I’m not tired of you guys being interested in Atreo, so no worries and I’ll happily oblige! I actually had to look up if sharks have a habit of forcing partners regardless of their ability to conceive (you know age and the like, I think dolphins are more dangerous in that aspect tho) but I didn’t get a 100% answers to my questions, so this is my vague headcanon not based on reality.
At first he'd probably keep trying and trying no matter how much its explained to him that it's impossible. He'd get more desperate and aggressive over the topic and it'll create a real sore spot for him for sure. In that aspect he'd probably demand they work harder to catch all of his release and open up for him, but no matter what he does, he can't escape reality.
Atreo will definitely go through a depression of sorts, his dreams crushed (like his darling) and he might neglect and avoid them in that time until they come to him, begging for care and apologizing. Seeing them distraught (about having to suffer more) probably will cause him to realize he's not the only one in pain about their non-existing family (it's denial) so he'll promise them he'll take 'care of it'.
By stealing someone elses pup.
The parents might survive... if they are cooperative.
See that's almost as if they have a family. Even if the child now suffers too and the darling now has a strange, aggressive, sharp-toothed baby in their arms and their stomach is still empty. In fact, darling has two strange, aggressive, sharp-toothed babies now and if they are not careful, Atreo will add one each year... like an anniversary gift. Once again, the great Atreo solved the problems occuring in his nest and can now go back to devote his time to his darling and now child. Hurray!
Honestly, he wasn’t that big of a deal. He could potentially be of the same pack as the three orcas of the orca tribe (orcas have fucking large packs I didn’t know that before, like 40), but I haven’t planned shit on that story yet and I don’t plan to very soon. And unless I plan a fight scene in the future (which I don’t know yet if I want), it’ll be unlikely he’ll be mentioned again. Ever. Please don’t get hung up on the details, I am happy to discuss headcanons/Atreo/stuff like that and add to them, but please don’t be pushy about new content.
I have been constantly imagining this… what if WE had a significant other back then?
Like imagine this man having to hear me aggressively being all like:

Eh, honestly I didn’t read much about same-sex relationships in the shark world so idk if he would have an idea about that, but I mean except for the description in the sex scene, the reader can be either, so I think Atreo would not question his mates choice in partner.
It only matters to him that he has them now and they are his, and whoever is up there can screw themselves because TOUGH LUCK but his darling is unreachable for them now. They belong to Atreo now once and for all, and he’s not giving them up. Never. (He does get a little jealous if the darling talks about them though. Maybe a little unhinged if they don’t stop and frustrate him, so they’ll learn it’s better to shut up.)

Well, his curiosity comes from concern, right? If his darling is TOO quiet it can’t be good either, and Atreo needs to make sure they are at least a little lively. So even if that shows in them grumbling and turning around on the bed, pouting, he’ll be satisfied. Atreo will also always use the chances he gets to remind his mate how much better they have it with him and how little they need when he’s by their side (even though they are probably dying from boredom lol). But hey, he’ll throw in some unwelcome cuddles if they need someone to change their mood xD

It’s also that the human probably taste pretty good since they are not some old, worn sailor. So that’s probably a reason to keep them aaaaaall to himself and then he just fell in love with them as they turned out an absolutely adorable, nonviable (in the ocean) creature in his care.
Also female sharks are mean and tough (but humans are cute and soft and have less options to choose and pick when they are immobilized underwater). And Atreo is only the 3rd best singer. Life’s tough when all you’re good for is hunting and fucking and then there are two other sharks that lure in all the females with their singing. He could have his share, certainly, just because he has proven himself as the strongest male. Buuuut he might not be the first choice for everyone either.
That said, he probably has a lot of kids from previous matings, but now he’s way too occupied with his darling to think of anyone else, no worries ^^
Well, you take a merman, use a great white shark as a reference, and then just slap the colors on him. Most notably are the black eyes like sharks have, I think I did say he also has grey hair, but I’d need to reread my own story and I’d rather not lol. Grey tail, pretty long, proportions of an 8′‘ human. Patches of scaly skin. The rest, tbh, is up to readers.
As for the dicks, male sharks actually always have them out as far as I know, they have two claspers. The “being able to pull them inside into something like a bag” is a real-life concept turned fantasy as much as I know. I’ve seen it countless of times for Naga, Merman, Drider, etc. I think it’s just a way to make them appear more “decent” for not always having their dicks out if it’s just normal scenarios. I do know that the monster from the movie The Shape of Water also has it.
However, the cocks do come out when he gets randomly aroused (either though his mate, a female in heat, a successful and exciting hunt,...) but the merfolk aren’t like... prudish. For them it can also make for a good sight, inviting them to lay with a male if he’s packing well. And if they are not interested, they’ll let him know and once the excitement disappears, so do the dicks. But he wouldn’t cover them up no, he’s not ashamed of his benefits lol.
Hey so… what if Atreo already had pups before he met darling (cause in his own words he is such a catch ;) ), how would they fit in with all of this? Would they be accepting of darling or reject them for being human? Maybe attempt to kill them behind Atreo’s back because they see it as shameful? How would Atreo react to that? Would he be as violent if the offender was his own pup? Also, if his previous pups also liked his darling platonically or otherwise, would that make him happy or more possessive cause he doesn’t wanna share?
I can’t speak for the pups (but I did mention before that it was not unlikely he had other children out of his matebond before meeting the reader), but I can say something about Atreo on this. So assuming he really had kids previously, there is always a possibility that they are 1.) not in his life and left the tribe 2.) stay in his tribe but are unhappy with their father’s choice in partner or don’t care 3.) embrace their step-parent and care for them.
1. obviously has no changes for him really if they aren’t present. Though if they come to visit he will proudly introduce his mate and won’t accept any bashing or questioning of his choice, especially since they don’t belong. If the pups are hostile against their father/’s tribe, he’ll hunt them down and try to best them as with any enemy and, of course, not let them near his mate.
2. will make him unhappy since he’d want them to engage and get along. Atreo might try something like inviting them to his nest for dinner or something, like forced proximity where everyone has to be polite to each other for the sake of peace. Like with the other merfolk, he doesn’t mind it so much when they talk behind his back and critize his choice, but if the pups try to harm his partner, he’d probably try to force them out of the tribe and if that doesn’t work, he’d have to kill them even if it makes him a bit sad. But his mate is of higher priority to him.
3. is the best outcome naturally. My merfolk put more emphasize on their mated families rather than the children or partners they have outside of this (it’s a consentual mating regardless with the other partners they have, especially for heat times. And those children are often a community effort when it comes to raising, rather than just their parents), so he isn’t a super emotionally-involved parent to his other pups even though he teaches them and watches them grow up, but he still wants them to get along with his darling and keep up the face of a happy family if they want to stay on the good side of their father. Nevertheless, though he’s more lenient with how much contact and affection they can give and receive from his darling, they should always check with him if it’s okay to touch or get close to them and hog their time. He’ll overlook some misconduct, but he has his boundaries and will lash out at his pups for getting too cozy. His darling isn’t their parent so there is a potential rivalry over mating them with his children and though he’ll forgive them if they apologize and submit to him, he doesn’t let them get away with everything and will be jealous.
