Star Trek has always been...inelegant, to put it politely...when it comes to Indigenous people of our own planet and the issues of colonialism they had historically, have modernly, and will have still in the future (apparently), so maybe the franchise should never ever touch upon this, but I always wonder how uncontacted tribes and peoples fit in with the whole Global Unity aspect of post-First Contact Earth. It's stated in TNG that the planet of Kespryt would be the first planet admitted to the Federation that wasn't a united people/planet, comparing it to a hypothetical situation where Australia doesn't join the rest of Earth in the Federation. So like. Do the Sentinelese know about warp drive and other life forms off Earth? Did they even survive World War Three and its global devastation? Did the rest of Earth barge in on them once we had the cure for any disease they had no prior exposure to? Do they ever see shuttles in the sky and have no point of reference for what they are?
But also this is the franchise who had Chakotay being written on the word of a race racefaking white guy and where almost all Native Americans live on their own planet now and the Federation attempts to forcibly displace them "for their own good" and ooof when it comes to TOS and their depiction of Native Americans so like...
