BACKGROUND:

growing up a in a single parent household as a military brat was not easy for a young safiyah. ending up with just her dad at two months, the phrase “it takes a village” meant a lot to the adeyemi duo.

enofe adeyemi needed a lot of help once safiyah’s mother left the picture. he was able to get some time off upon receiving her, and it was spent bonding and learning everything he could about being a single dad. lots of calling his own mom and befriending anyone on base with kids.

safiyah had so many villages growing up, it was almost hard to keep up. moving every two years made it hard for her to develop and keep any friendships. even the ones on base were hard to keep and maintain, because they almost never moved at the same time, or to the same place.

one thing that helps her find peace is books. she would spend evenings reading with her dad or even over the phone with her grandma. it was something her and her dad worked with on frequently. she was learning her letters by age 3, and was able to read the classic sight words by age 5.

while her real life was frequently changing, it was easy for her to get lost in the lives of jack and annie from the magic tree house series.

she became a bit of a recluse as she grew older in elementary school and even into middle school. she found herself reading during recess and lunch instead of socializing, because it was easier to just keep up with the worlds she was interested in than to try and make another set of friends that would soon become a distant memory.

it’s on her thirteenth birthday that her dad promises he’s going to finish his time in the marines. he wants to get them all situated in time for her to start high school. he knows that’s when grades start to matter, and while she’d never particularly struggled in school, he could only imagine how hard it would be to try and transfer credits and start life all over during such important years.

he makes good on his promise by the summer of her fourteenth birthday. he’s officially retired, and he thinks austin is the best place for the two of them to go. she’s skeptical at first– she’s not quite sure how to actually settle down. however, once school starts, it doesn’t take long for her to knock her own walls over. she couldn’t be a recluse forever, and life was going to suck if she was.

she graduates in good standing and heads off to the university of texas where she gets her degree in english & language arts, with a minor in creative writing. in both high school and college, she had fallen in love with all the classics. shakespeare, lord of the flies, the iliad, etc. she also adored writing just about anything. fiction, poetry, short stories… she was a jack of all trades.

she comes back and works different jobs. barista, server, all while she spends some time writing. she doesn’t really have a lot to do, and she’s kind of enjoying just slowing down and taking things one day at a time.

she does that for a couple of years, while she works on getting her teaching certification. it doesn’t take long for her to find a place at a local high school, where she starts at the age of 25.

PERSONALITY

for the most part, alexander is a very loving and caring person. he is very protective of those he loves, sometimes to a fault. but he always has good intentions, unless you hurt someone he loves, then he can be hell on earth and he has the fbi on his side so really, don’t cross him.

he can get VERY hot-heated, he is a very passionate guy when something really interests him.

he’s basically tired ???? all the time??? he doesn’t sleep that much but yeah, big part of his personality, either tired or drinking coffee.

he is either locked in a bubble trying to get himself to write or camping OR hosting dinner/game night parties, he is the MASTER of board games. or at karaoke, he also loves karaoke

biggest broadway nerd. he'd spend all his free time at a different show when he lived in new yorkso he's either listening to soundtracks or hozier/joni mitchell/jazz music

he's big on chick flicks ngl, romance movies in general, he's a romantic little guy

has had a handful of romantic relationships, he's a serial monogamist though. he even was engaged once, when he lived in new york but it all ended abruptly even before quitting his job as a federal agent.

his biggest wish in life is having a family of his own.

since he can't sleep at night, he often uses this time to either work or go on roadtrips

probably the best guy to have as your emergency contact. very reliable plus he works at home most of the time so he is always a call away for whatever those around him need.

loves being the person people go to when they need to talk, he is the best at lending a hand/ear/shoulder when needed, yet it's very rare when he talks about his own life and struggles, going as far as to say he feels like he hides half of his life (mostly his past) to the people he loves because he can't bring himself to speak of it

honestly, just a very tired old golden retriever with an awful past he is still trying to deal with.

relationships are as complex as human beings. we are volatile, coarse by nature; and things only get harsher when emotional baggage/mental health issues are carried and tossed around. it’s a russian roulette half the time, loving and carrying for those around you, but oh how worth it it is when you can find someone who understands you even without speaking, someone who knows you and your inner demons and still sticks by your side. although nothing is perfect and there will never be peace, you can keep eachother warm.

the cory to his shawn, the phoebe to his joey, the chandler to his joey. he is a very loving person all together and deems himself a friendly guy who cares about all the people in his life, however this person has a special place in his heart. they are his go-to whenever something goes wrong and they need help, they are one of those people he’d do anything for and, most importantly, they are one of the few people who really know him, beyond the smiles and good times. who know the darkness that lies deep within him, perhaps the person he trusts the most in the world.

PERSONALITY

most days, valerie is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, the kind of girl who smiles at everyone she meets and greets strangers with a smile on the daily. she likes making people around her happy and thrives when people around her shine.

however, she can be very closed off and go as far as to be very deceitful? I mean, she is sharp, even though people don’t think she is because they write her off as a “ingenue” type, but what most people don’t know is she can be cunning whenever she sets her mind on it, she learned from a very young age how to take advantage of everything she had to get what she had her mind settled on.

the one thing she cares the most about in the world is her family. although not a family by blood, they are her everything and there is nothing she wouldn't do for them. yet no one comes close to her younger sibling, whom she met on her first foster home and has protected ever since.

her hobbies include painting and sculpting (which she makes some money off of), gardening (her home is a glorified zen garden by now) and sewing and designing clothes (she sometimes uses this skill to make clothes for selling or to gift to friends and family, it's a skill she had to pick up on while in the system to keep herself and his sibling dressed).

loyal to no end, good god. It takes a lot for her to feel comfortable with someone to call them her friend but once she does, she is the most loyal friend. also the mom friend, no matter how close you are. if it’s even a little bit chilly outside and she sees a stranger shivering she WILL give them her sweater, has medicine and candy on her at all times.

not the best at romance. she loves the chasing stage, loves to flirt and all that but keeping a relationship can be a handful for her. she often runs before things get too serious, has probably had one or two real relationships and neither of them ended on the greatest of terms.

she can be quite impetuous and extremely curious to the verge of being noisy, but never in a malicious way, unless you mess with someone she cares about.

violet always believed in angels. she grew up praying one would come and save her from the circumstances she had been born in, even though she never quite understood what angels looked like. that was, of course, until she met her adoptive family at the age of 16. they took her and her younger sibling in, gave them the love and care they lacked their entire lives and granted them a life violet thought she'd never get to have. they still remain an intrinsic part of everything she does, her adoration for her family is evident to every one who has spent more than five minutes with the artist.

there is no other explanation than : it was meant to be. they met when they were just kids, running wild along the streets of austin like life and time belong to them. they grew up together, united by the hip even through their darkest of times, through highs and lows they have remained eachother's anchors through it all. now, decades later, they continue being in eachother's lives not only as best friends but as business partners, co-owning almost heaven inn, a dream they both have had since they were little. will becoming business partners solidify their bond and kinship to prove to the world that they truly are meant to be together for the rest of their lives, or will the pressure begin to show cracks on their relationships none of them had noticed before? if soulmates are real, are they the living proof of the tie? is it all as platonic as it all seems to be?

whenever she’s stressed or just… inspiration strikes , she calls this person to either use them as a model or a human canvass . she has every line of their body engraved on her memory and she still finds them as every bit fascinating as that first day she met them and couldn’t stop thinking about them ; could spend hours painting them or on them .

sweet violet is a hopeless romantic . believes - in - soulmates - ( platonic or otherwise ) -and - love - at - first - sight kind of romantic . however , developing a relationship with her is harder than she may lead to believe . growing up , she had the responsibility of carrying for herself and her younger sibling ; most of her energy was focused on that and once she was grown up , her aim to become something she and her family could be proud of monopolized her entire existence . however , and against all odds , she fell . she fell hard and deep ( perhaps more than once ) . as life goes , things ended up not working out and violet was left with a heart broken and a tad of issues when it comes to making a compromise ; realizing how much it hurt to truly open up and giving yourself over to someone who could as well walk away one day .

ah , crushes . the chasing , the yearning , the blushing and the flirting ; all stages of a crush , something violet hasn’t managed to completely understand even as an adult . even though the artist is not good at handling relationships ( fear of commitment , family issues , you name it and it’s on the list of reasons why relationships never quite work for her ) , crushes are the one thing she allows herself to have . a little flirting , some fooling around with no feelings involved can’t hurt anybody , right ?
