A Quick Cities Lamentation
New roads statistically induce demand for... more roads... which in turn induce... more traffic. Until a growing city fundamentally changes the way people move with strong leadership, hardline policies, and sprawl-limiting code, it's unreasonable for anyone to expect progress.
Until a city willingly decides to disrupt its subsidization of sprawl and the industries that depend on it for operability, it won't mitigate traffic effectively or achieve any lofty goals of "liveability."
Perhaps we'll have to rely on self-driving cars or other innovations to disrupt things for us.
