Send me a ‘†’ and my muse will sing your’s to sleep as your muse passes away
Raising his hand to cover his face from the searing flames quickly closing in on him, he quickly looked around the room before realizing his daughter was not present in this room. His eyes burned from the smoke, his body was close to being engulfed by the fire and he could barely breathe - but he still pushed on. The pain was nothing compared to his desire to save his daughter from this hell. Jumping over a fallen bookcase, he swiftly escaped the room. His eyes widened when he noticed the hallway was close to caving in. Shit. If he didn’t find her soon then they would both die from the fire.
"Diya! Diya where are you?!" The king continued yelling out for his daughter. Cassim nearly hacked his chest out after raising his voice for way too long, but he didn’t care. It didn’t matter if he died. As long as his daughter lived, he was happy. "Di-" A low whine from the room on his left caught his attention. Kicking the flaming door down with all his strength, his breath hitched when he saw her on the ground - nearly unconscious. Rushing by her side, he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close to him. "It’ll be fine. We can get out of this. Hang in there." She gave him a small nod before closing her eyes.
Getting up with his daughter in his arms, he escaped the room before making it back to the hallway. Shit. It was even worse than before. He was about to run to the exit when he saw a part of the roof was falling down on them. Even though he jumped out of the way, it wasn’t quick enough and his legs ended up getting caught under the roof - causing him to drop his daughter. “Fuck!” He yelled from the pain before attempting to push it off him. His hands burned as he tried his best to get it off his legs. But it was impossible. Even if he did manage to break out, his legs were already crushed. There was no escape for him. Shifting his gaze towards his daughter, he called out for her. “Diya! Wake up! You need to leave! Diya!” No matter how loud he yelled, she couldn’t hear him. No matter how hard he shook her, she was already unconscious.
Ha, how karma had its weirdest way to get back at him.
It still had not forgiven him for setting the palace on fire when he was still a young boy and causing the former king’s death. It looked like fate had the last laugh. What a fucking sick joke. Tears welled up in his eyes as he banged his fist against the floor. He couldn’t protect her. He couldn’t protect Mariam. It seemed like he was incapable of saving the people he loved more than anything else. He was weak back then, and he was still weak now. He bitterly chuckled at himself. Even with power, he couldn’t do anything to save the ones he loved. As he watched everything around him crash and burn, he grabbed his daughter’s hand before singing.
“… You got your sunshine, I got rain clouds.”
“You got hope, I got my doubts.”
He closed his eyes when he saw the ceiling above them collapse before uttering his last words.
"Oh, what would I do without you?"
