Absurd, really.

Even the familiar taste of blood couldn't... quite distract her from two very... insistent and very immediate thoughts.

One involved listening behind her, hearing the metallic rattle of a falling vanguard, Seifer's snarling breath, the thud of his feet striking the ground as he lunged forward.

Good. He remained in fighting shape.

The other thought involved what she'd moved to intercept, moving with thoughtless muscle memory, the instinctive lunge to stand between what was unquestionably, completely, and absolutely hers...

...and what came at his back.

Anna did not often make a move in combat which she considered 'stupid'... but now, with a sword rammed through her abdomen... She would've laughed if not for the searing electrope edge protruding from her back.

A cough sprayed more blood into the air, her feet remained firmly planted, clutching her staff with the strength of sheer annoyance at her own stupidity.

"Could you jostle me any harder?"

"This does rather hurt, you know, and your pauldron isn't helping."

"I'm hoping you'll remember this the next time you're about to do something as stupid as put your unarmored gut between my armored back and a sword."
