Doctor Who is celebrating 60 years by releasing over 800 episodes on BBC iPlayer.
The sci-fi fantasy show first premiered in 1963 and has cemented itself as a permanent fixture in pop culture history. This fall, fans will be able to stream the entire 800-plus episode series along with spin-offs like Sarah Jane Adventures, Torchwood, and Class, and the behind-the-scenes series Doctor Who Confidential.
Each Dr Who episode will be made accessible for all Whovians, with subtitles, audio description, and sign language options available for the very first time.
A few people have tried on the small scale to reach out to Markiplier and his team for this with no luck, so I am turning to his wonderful community for help!
I'm blind. I have a lot of blind friends. We love the movies and I personally adore Iron Lung! It's the best thing I've seen in years and a favorite movie (seen it four times so far, planning to go one more time if I can). I adore what I have been able to make out of this movie and I'm grateful for fellow fans who have helped to explain things to me after the fact. But what I would really love is an audio description track for Iron Lung.
Audio description has been around since the early 90s and is an audio track where a narrator describes actions and details on screen between dialogue. The first time I saw an audio described movie in theaters in 2012 I cried; for the first time ever, I didn't have to turn to a friend to know what was happening, I could see a movie like everyone else! It meant so much to me and still does to this day.
With Iron Lung being such a small team, it made sense that there was no audio description for the theatrical release. Now that it's been such a success, it would be wonderful if the team could do one more thing that would help include so many more people in Markiplier's fandom. I don't personally work in audio description myself, I'm just a blind person who really benefits from it, but I know there are companies and people out there trying to get hold of Markiplier's team to help facilitate an audio description track.
I'm just one person and I'm new in this fandom space. But Mark really loves his fans and if enough voices ask for it (nicely!), maybe he'll hear that this is something folks want and be able to make it happen. A lot of sighted people enjoy audio description too and you can try it out yourself on a lot of streaming services (Netflix, Disney, and Apple are pretty good at including it).
It's dark in that ocean of blood. Bring audio description to Iron Lung! (please <3)
Because of the flashing/spinning problem with a good chunk of Project Hail Mary, I checked to see if the version I purchased from Amazon includes audio description.
I figured since it's not Disney/Marvel, it would be a coin flip on whether it would even have if, and if so if the narrator would be any good.
It's Jedediah Barton!!! My guy from Daredevil (and many other Marvel shows/movies, as well as Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End).
I cannot tell you how excited I am about this! I can fully look away for the spinny/flashy bits and follow the narration until the horrible stuff is over.
So if anyone has been hesitant to watch because of the flashing lights & movement sequences, fear not!
I'm still hoping someone will do a list of timestamps to help photosensitive viewers know when to look away, but this definitely helps too!
And now I'm hoping it will be uploaded to Audio Vault so I can just listen without having the TV on. (edit: It is on Audio Vault!)
This will also help my kiddo who has a hard time keeping up with the various captions used for Rocky before the voice and on Erid, because Jed reads the translations.
I am not only thrilled that studios are starting to include description in streaming releases, but even more so that apparently studios beyond Disney/Marvel are using Deluxe and have discovered the gem that is Jedediah Barton. He's so good at what he does.
I would also have been happy with Laura Post. She's also really good! But I have to say Jed is my fave. He needs to teach his style to other narrators. And whoever at Deluxe does the narration scripts is also freaking fantastic.
I watched the Peaky Blinders: Immortal Man movie, and I just wanna give a shoutout to the audio description.
"He selects a cigarette, reprising his old habit of rubbing the tip across his lips." "His face crumples as emotion overwhelms him." "The pyre makes a bright orange glow on the crest of the moor as night falls."
It's one of those things for which being good should be the standard, it's an accessibility feature, but I've used it for quite a few shows/movies (sometimes just listening, other times also glancing or fully watching), and I can tell you it's often lacking. I didn't listen to the audio description when I watched the rest of the series, so I don't know if it was the same way, but whoever wrote it for this movie actually tried to convey all the important things and the mood and nuance and make it fit the tone of the series.

Moderator: …who arrived at this event at warp-speed or at least Deutsche Bahn speed…
George Hawkins: Hello, hello. Wow! [indistict] Oh my goodness! Hello, hello, hello! Wow! Thank you so much for turning up, this is really cool. I didn't think anyone would be in the audience. You guys, by the way, I had no idea, you party. You drink, man. You guys, you're rock and roll, you really are. That's so cool. Ehm, where do you want me to sit? [*] Over there?
Audience: On the chair!
GH: On the chair. (small laugh)
(Audience laughs)
GH: Feel like I'm about to do stand-up comedy… OK. I've got one thing. If you're gonna ask a question, please tell me one thing. There is one thing I wanna know about you. And that is… What is the biggest animal you think you can take in a fight?
(Audience laughs and applauds)
GH: OK? And I don't want- Thank you! I don't want stupid answers like "a polar bear".
(Audience laughs)
GH: I want- I want realism here. I want- I wanna get to know you. And I'll give you a little- Mine is like a big ram. Okay? Or like a labrador.
(Audience laughs)
GH: I think that might be it. Okay awesome.

*[To me it actually sounds like he's saying something like "Where do you sit for me?"?? Maybe someone can correct me here?]
So this is my best guess at the audio description. I would be very grateful for any corrections as I am not a native speaker.
