Maya and the Lord of Shadows
Coming to the end of this trilogy... A little bit sadly, I gotta admit. I'll be thankful for the journey, whatever happens.

Nesha Reads: Raybearer...
It’s Happening Tonight.
1-23-2022: Skin of the Sea, by Natasha Bowen, read by Yetide Badaki.
This Poison Heart by Kalynn Bayron
First Book of 2022!!!
If anybody wants to take the journey with me, complete with my reacts and potential spoilers, I generally tag books, "Nesha Reads (Insert Title)," so you can blacklist that to keep it off the dash.
As anybody following my book adventures know, I rather enjoyed Cinderella is Dead, so I hope to enjoy this book by the same author. And I also loved Jordan Cobb's narration of Katherine Deveraux's chapters in Deathless Divide, so I know that I'll love hearing her lend her voice to this as well.
For the new - I work overnights and audiobooks is the best way for me to be able to experience books anymore, so even though I have a lot of reactions and feelings I yell out while reading (here), I don't make note of everything, because I am still working as well.
But, my inbox stay open. So if y'all have read and wanna discuss any of the books in my "Nesha Reads" tag, come on down.
And now...
This Poison Heart...
This ain't our first rodeo. We live for this series. I am a little sad that Yetide Badaki will no longer be the voice of this book. I was very used to her style and her voice for this series, but I'm excited to meet this new narrator whose reading I have not yet experienced.
I've listened to the Binti series in a couple of days and I just wanted to shoutout the actress that did the reading that I heard: Robin Miles.
I don't think black voice actresses and audiobooks readers get enough acknowledgement for the journeys they take us on.
Thank you to this woman for my Binti experience.
One of my library apps said that the audiobook for Redemptor wouldn't be available for 4 weeks, so I got the ebook from Hoopla, then the audiobook became available on Libby, so I get to get to the sequel of Raybearer tonight instead. And I'll be able to read along at times.
The worse part about listening to the books instead of reading is that I'm always at a loss for how to spell names and stuff, and a lot of these books don't have a lot of content out there.
Raybearer was so good though. I'm trying to get one of my book buddies to talk to about it. Can't... Recommend it in good conscience, because it definitely has a string emphasis on generational trauma. But of all of the afrofuturism books that I've read, it's high up there with overall satisfaction of how things are playing out.
