Stone me! It's another Royal wedding--! (although not with the heir; this time it's the spare!)
Not since the romance of Tony Blair & George Bush has there been such a "kerfuffle"--!
There hasn't been this much hullabaloo since old "Eddie-The-Eighth" ran off with an American divorcee nearly 80 years ago!
So this all rather neatly ties-in with this old song that was adapted for the 1978 ITV Mini-series: "Edward & Mrs. Simpson".
The 1927 song was adapted by Ron Grainer & features a vocal refrain by Jenny Wren. It was used as the opening & closing credits for each episode.
This is actually a "suite" made up of 3 recordings:
1.) The Opening Titles
2.) The Closing Credits (instrumental)
3.) The studio recording (for the soundtrack album) that combines elements of both 1 & 2!
The vinyl soundtrack has been long out of print, nor did it include the opening & closing music.
I remastered the audio from the soundtrack & the third version is from the LP album.
"I've danced with a man, who's danced with a girl, who's danced with the Prince of Wales" was a song written in 1927 by Herbert Farjeon at the height of the popularity of Edward, Prince of Wales - who often frequented nightclubs & hotel ballrooms-- unprecedented up until that date for an heir to the throne- later Edward VIII of the United Kingdom! The girl who inspired the song was Edna Deane, a ballroom dancing champion.
I've danced with a man, who's danced with a girl, who's danced with the Prince of Wales.
It was simply grand, he said; "Topping band" & she said; "Delightful, Sir"
Glory, Glory, 'Alleluia! I'm the luckiest of females;
For I've danced with a man, who's danced with a girl, who's danced with the Prince of Wales!
My word I've had a party, my word I've had a spree--
Believe me or believe me not, it's all the same to me!
I'm wild with exultation, I'm dizzy with success
For I've danced with a man, I've danced with a man-
Who--?
Well, you'll never guess--
I've danced with a man, who's danced with a girl, who's danced with the Prince of Wales.
I'm crazy with excitement, completely off the rails!
& when he said to me, what she said to him -the Prince remarked to her--
It was simply grand, he said; "Topping band" & she said; "Delightful, Sir"
Glory, Glory, 'Alleluia! I'm the luckiest of females;
For I've danced with a man, who's danced with a girl, who's danced with the Prince of Wales!"
