okay so my last post on book recommendations gained a few likes, so i thought why not come up with another post but this time it’s gonna be podcasts. more specifically, academia based podcasts which i have been listening to for a while and love. i can guarantee one thing and that is that after listening to these, you’ll come out a tad bit smarter and with more knowledge than how you started off with.
all of these podcasts could be found on all the main platforms. i personally use castbox and spotify. the list includes podcasts on history, philosophy, current affairs, religion and more along similar lines.
1. The Seen and The Unseen by Amit Varma;
this masterpiece is a golden discovery of mine when it comes to the Indian context. this features hardcore discussions on indian politics, history, behavioural science, economics, interviews with writer, journalists etc. and their take on the topic while also talking about a few general widely discussed topics. The discussions are extremely well researched and thought provoking. I am genuinely envious on how knowledgable the host is. He poses the right questions and makes some really good arguments and doubts. for anyone who is interested in knowing more about the indian side of things, do give this a listen. Totally worth your time (the episodes tend to get really long as the serial number increases but it’s still equally interesting)
2. Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness;
For all the Queer-Eye fans out there, we all know and LOVE LOVE LOVE jvn. like his personality just shinessss through the show. So much positivity and lets not forget what an adorable guy he is. Apart from being this super cute person, he also happens to be EXTREMELY well-read and has his own podcast talking about a lot of important things happening around the world. In his podcast, he features a lot of guests and discusses various issues round the globe like racism, the american elections, religion, business, sports etc. he talks to them and tries to decode their area of expertise which results in a lot of really interesting conversations. Bonus, he also features his co-stars from the show who talk about their journey and life. one thing is that, they have moved a newer episodes to stitcher (i think) with a subscription, but you can find the older episodes on these platforms
Y’ALL IM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS. For all my greek history/mythology peeps out there, THIS. IS. PERFECTTT. For you. The best part about this is that the hosts make it so fkn relatable. They make sure that you dont get bored and it’s not dry. They fill it with humor, relatable topics for everyone to get a better understanding. Also its in a storytelling format rather than your basic textbook narration of things, which can get really boring after a while. This is one of my go-to’s while trying to learn more about this. I know for a fact that you’ll enjoy it.
4. The Land of Desire: French History and Culture;
As the title suggests, this podcast features some of the greatest events and people that happened to the french history over the last hundreds of years. It features short episodes where each episode deals with one aspect or event or a person that made an impact on the french history. For eg, the origins of bastille day or the dreyfus affair, napolean etc.
